Date Oct. 27, 1994Sodium percarbonate is often used in the form of coated particles to increase its storage stability in detergents. Sodium percarbonate particles coated in accordance with the invention have a coating containing reaction products from the reaction of a dialkali metal tetraborate or alkali metal pentaborate with aqueous hydrogen peroxide. Preferred coating components are: perborax with the formula Na2B4O7xH2O2, where n =2 or 4. The coated sodium percarbonate particles are produced by coating the percarbonate particles using a solution containing the reaction products mentioned above. Detergent, bleaching and cleaning compositions containing sodium percarbonate particles coated in accordance with the invention are distinguished by very high stability in storage.

Abstract: Sodium percarbonate of the formula 2 Na2CO3 3 H2O2 can be produced by fluidised-bed spray granulation by spraying an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate and a hydrogen peroxide solution on sodium percarbonate seeds and evaporating water. The previously necessary use of phosphorus-containing crystallisation inhibitor to prevent blockages and incrustations in and on the nozzle can be avoided by the invention if the solutions are sprayed using a single three-substance pulverisation nozzle with the external mixing of the solutions.

In contrast to previously known methods, according to the present invention a greater storage stability is attained with smaller quantities of perborate coating.

Abstract: Sodium perborate hydrate pellets having an active oxygen content of 14 to 18% by weight, especially 15 to 16% by weight, an abrasion index in the ISO test 5937 of not more than 10%, a dissolving time of less than 1.5 minutes, preferably less than 1.0 minute (1 g/500 cm of water, 15 DEG C) and a bulk density from more than 0.6 to 1.2 kg/dm can be produced by compacting spray-dried, substantially amorphous sodium perborate hydrate, which has a bulk density below that of the pellets and a particle size of 90% smaller than 100 mu m and loses 0.2 to 2.0 of its weight by storage at 60 DEG C and 100 Pa in 30 minutes, between rollers at a contact pressure of 5 x 10 to 2 x 10 N/cm, comminuting the flakes and subjecting the pellets, if appropriate after rounding them by mechanical stressing, to grain fractionation. The advantage of the process is that pellets having the said physical data desired by the market can be obtained in this way in a simple manner and without a thermal stress of the perborate.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production, by fluid-bed spray granulation, of granular sodium percarbonate having a low TAM value. According to the invention, in the fluid-bed spray granulation, an Mg compound in a quantity of 50 to 2,000 ppm, in particular 100 to 1,000 ppm, or/and a complexing agent from among the hydroxycarboxylic acids, aminocarboxylic acids, aminophosphonic acids and phosphonocarboxylic acids, hydroxyphosphonic acids and their alkali metal salts, ammonium salts or Mg salts, in a quantity of 50 to 2,000 ppm, in particular 200 to 1,000 ppm, are added as stabilisers to the soda solution and/or H 2 O 2 solution. Preferably a combination of an Mg compound in a quantity of 100 to 1,000 ppm Mg 2+ and waterglass in a quantity of 0.1 to 1 wt. %, in particular 0.1 to 0.5 wt. %, is used, and in this case granules having a TAM value of about or below 6 muW/g and simultaneously a short dissolving time, are obtainable.

The reactants are conducted as a reaction mixture through the reaction spaces in the same direction in parallel flows. A fluid heat exchange medium is conducted through tubular cavities (5) extending in the interior of the wall elements to obtain the desired reaction. An independent claim is also included for apparatus comprising the reactor in which the slot-shaped reaction spaces are capable of having the reactants supplied from the same side of the block. The reaction spaces are oriented to guide the reaction mixture in the same direction in parallel flows.
