Abstract:
Aqueous gel compositions and their use in electrophoresis, and anhydrous compositions useful in the preparation of the aqueous gel compositions. The aqueous gel compositions comprise: A), water, B) at least one di- or tri-hydroxy C2-4 alkyl ether moiety (preferably glyceryl) substituted agarose, and B) from about 20 to about 400 mM of at least one borate compound per liter of aqueous gel composition. The anhydrous compositions comprise the agarose in powder form and the borate in powder or aqueous solution.
Abstract:
A process for producing high purity stable etherical solutions of aryllithium compounds by reacting lithium metal, in the form of a dispersion, with a monohaloaryl compound in an ether of the formula ROR' wherein R and R' are independently selected from alkyl radicals containing three to eight carbon atoms, the mole ratio of ether to monohaloaryl compound is at least 1.0 and the reaction temperature is maintained below 65 DEG C.
Abstract:
A propulsion system for using a pair of electric induction motors to power a pair of vehicle drive wheels. The motors are driven by pulses of electric current from a common dc bus. The inductance of stator windings cause electric current to power the motors during the time between pulses so power from the dc bus is low. When a vehicle is making a tight turn, an inside motor provides an electric current to the dc bus to supply additional power to an outside motor. Speed and steering signals operate the electric motors and control speed of an engine and an alternator which supply power to the dc bus.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Treatment of polycythemia vera or hyperbilirubinaemia by administering a compound which is a specific inhibitor of the enzymatic conversion of protoporphyrinogen to heme in mammalian cells.
Abstract:
A process for strengthening the cellulose in materials which have been treated with an alkaline organometallic compound selected from a metal alkyl, metal alkoxide or alkyl metal alkoxide to deacidify the cellulose and which cellulosic material is wet with treatment solvent by treating the undried cellulosic material with a polar monomer and then drying the cellulose material and polymerizing the monomer by subjecting the treated cellulose to vacuum and heat.
Abstract:
This application discloses a process for the preparation of an (R,S)-(cyano)(3-phenoxyphenyl)methyl or (R,S,)-(cyano)(4-fluoro-3-phenoxyphenyl)methyl cis/trans-3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate enriched in the more insecticidal c2 and t2 isomers by the addition of (R,S)-α-hydroxy-3-phenoxyphenylacetonitrile or (R,S,)-α-hydroxy-4-fluoro-3-phenoxyphenylacetonitrile to the cis/trans acid chloride in refluxing heptanes in an inert atmosphere. The reaction mixture is then washed with aqueous base and the ester recovered.
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for inducing a deacidification chemical compound into the pages of a book by immersing the book in the solution containing the compound with the solvent being subsequently driven off by simultaneously subjecting the book under vaccum and energy in the RF range.
Abstract:
Apparatus for the quick connect and disconnect of a welding and a cutting torch (11) includes a plurality of quick connectors (30, 44, 50). An outer portion (61) of a quick connector (30) carries electrical current which provides electrical power for an electric arc welder (11) and an axial bore (62) in the connector carries a liquid to provide cooling of the torch. Other quick connectors (44, 50) carry gas or liquid between the torch (11) and sources of supply.
Abstract:
Crystallizable pyrethroid isomer or enantiomer pairs are converted to more pesticidally active isomers by contacting a hydrocarbon slurry of the starting isomers with a base and a catalyst, the catalyst being substantially soluble in the slurry and selected from a quaternary ammonium compound, a quaternary phosphonium compound and a crown ether, agitating the slurry while maintaining a temperature effective for conversion, and recovering the resulting isomers. The tendency to form benzoin ester by-product is reduced by including in the slurry a weak base, an aldehyde scavenger such as a metabisulfite, and/or a tetraalkyl(C1-C5)ammonium halide catalyst dissolved in an aprotic solvent such as an organic nitrile. The process typically is effective for enriching cypermethrin, cyfluthrin and (cyano)(3-phenoxyphenyl)methyl 3-(2,2-dibromoethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate in the more active species.
