    Abstract: A wireless communication system includes a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) and an access point (AP). The AP communicates with the WTRUs via an antenna. In one embodiment, the AP configures the antenna to a wide beam configuration that covers a desired service area and transmits a Request-To-Send (RTS) control message. When the AP receives a Clear-To-Send (CTS) control message from one of the WTRUs, the AP determines optimal antenna settings for communication with the one WTRU. The AP configures the antenna to a narrow beam configuration and transmits at least one data packet to the one WTRU. When the AP receives an acknowledgement message indicating that the data packet was successfully received by the WTRU, the AP configures the antenna to the wide beam configuration. In another embodiment, the AP is configured to transmit and receive data packet fragments from the WTRUs and configure the antenna accordingly.

    Abstract: A method for changing a channel in a wireless local area network (WLAN) to alleviate congestion and high interference levels, the WLAN having an access point (AP) and at least one station, begins by determining a list of candidate channels. A channel is selected from the candidate list and is evaluated against predetermined criteria. If the selected channel meets the predetermined criteria, then all of the stations communicating with the AP are disassociated and the AP is changed to the selected channel. If the selected channel does not meet the predetermined criteria, then the selected channel is removed from the candidate list and the selecting step is repeated if there are additional candidate channels.

    Abstract: During a contention-free period, or silent measurement period, of a first wireless communications channel, signals received on a second wireless communications channel are analyzed. The results of the analysis are used to perform advanced radio resource management functions, such as frequency selection, load balancing, or power management. Each of a plurality of wireless channels may be measured in order to perform the advanced radio resource management functions. During the analysis, an energy detect threshold may be lowered to a minimal value.

    Abstract: Un transmisor UE en un sistema de comunicacion inalambrico UTRAN 3G efectua una adaptacion dinamica de enlace (DLA) con parametros dinamicos semiestaticos para superar las dificultades de propagacion de RF. Se definen canales de transporte separados (DCH) para cada parametro semiestatico, incluyendo la codificacion anticipada de errores (FEC), tipo y velocidad de codificacion (paso 201/202). Cuando la velocidad de datos disminuye durante la DLA, se selecciona un TFC que tiene el tipo de velocidad de codificacion de FEC deseado (paso 203/204/205). Puesto que este ajuste ocurre en cada TTI, el trazo del mapa de los codigos de paquete de datos en cada intervalo de tiempo en el canal fisico incluye el beneficio de FEC en lugar de una velocidad de datos reducida unicamente. Esto permite una SIR mejorada en intervalos de tiempo que pueden experimentar dificultades de preparacion de RF durante el proceso de trazo del mapa de UL.
