    Abstract: A double bounce passive facet tracking system uses a single passive optical component of a toroidal mirror to induce a beam of light to track a facet of a dual mirror rotating polygon. A beam focused in both the tangential and sagittal planes is reflected from a convex facet of the polygon mirror to the toroidal mirror. The toroidal mirror collimates the light beam in a tangential plane and focuses the beam in the sagittal plane so that the beam is collimated in the tangential plane and focussed in the sagittal plane when it reaches the flat facet of the polygon mirror.

    Abstract: The present invention comprises gene therapy for treating cystic fibrosis(CF). Delivery and expression of a single copy of a normal CFTR gene leads to stable correction of the Cl channel regulation defect present in CF epithelial cells. The present invention includes recombinant viral and plasmid vectors, alternative CFTR gene delivery strategies, and transduced CF cells and cell lines carrying a recombinant gene for functional CFTR. CF epithelial complementation through transduction of the present invention also provides an assay for determining the validity of other putative CF mutations.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a hand punch comprising a C-shaped member having a punch and die mounted in the extremities thereof. A rotary head having a threaded member axially disposed therein is mounted for rotation in one extremity of the C and the punch or cutting head is mounted on that member so that, when the rotary head is rotated, the cutting head is advanced into the die. The cutting head has cutting edges adapted to bite into the material to be punched and to hold it against rotation. It is threaded onto the threaded member by a reverse thread so that, once it bites into the material to be punched, the threaded member is held against rotation, whereby rotation of the rotary head drives the punch into the die.

    Abstract: An optical fiber cable includes a jacket and modules including optical fibers. The jacket has an interior that forms an elongate conduit between proximal and distal ends. The modules extend lengthwise through the conduit without being bound together in a pattern of twisting or wound together in a pattern of stranding. Also, the jacket and modules are sized such that free space is provided within the conduit between the modules and the jacket. The jacket is at least ten meters long, and the orientation, alignment, and size of the modules allow individual modules to slide lengthwise relative to one another through the conduit. Pulling one of the modules from the proximal end of the jacket while holding the other modules fixed at the distal end of the jacket draws the one module further into the jacket on the distal end of the jacket.
