Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium excellent in durability and hardly lowering its saturation magnetic flux density after storage over a long period of time because the rate of coating of the magnetic layer with a lubricant is increased and the amt. of the lubricant released from the magnetic layer during running is reduced. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic substrate 5 with a formed magnetic layer is allowed to run in vacuum, the surface of the magnetic layer on the substrate 5 is irradiated with hydroxyl group ions from an ion gun 2 and a lubricant atomized by applying ultrasonic waves is sprayed on the substrate 5 with an ultrasonic sprayer 5 to form a top coat layer on the magnetic layer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium showing good low frequency output by forming a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic supporting body in such a manner that the width of the columnar structure in the layer is made uniform along the perpendicular direction to the longitudinal plane of the nonmagnetic supporting body. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic recording medium is produced by allowing a nonmagnetic supporting body 4 to travel in a vapor deposition zone of specified length in a vacuum chamber 1 so that an enough amt. of metal particles to form a magnetic layer can be deposited on the nonmagnetic supporting body 4. The position of a crucible 6 as the vapor deposition source and a deposition- preventing plate 7 to the nonmagnetic supporting body 4 is controlled so that a certain amt. of metal particles can be always deposited on the nonmagnetic supporting body 4 in any position in the vapor deposition zone.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To solve the problem of dust sticking on the back coat layer at the time of forming the layer by providing the metallic thin film forming equipment with a device for allowing the material to be subjected to vapor deposition treatment to wavily travel in a vacuum vessel, a device for irradiating a metallic material in a crucible with the electron beam and a device for supplying an oxidizing gas to the vapor of the metallic material. CONSTITUTION:The Al metal 10 is irradiated with the electron beam from e.g. the electron gun 21 to melt and evaporate the Al metal 10. The tape 5 which is delivered to the evaporation region by the delivery roll 6 is guided by the guide roll 13 movable perpendicularly to allow the tape 5 to wavily travel while vapor-depositing the Al vapor on the tape 5 and to form the metallic film on the tape 5 during its traveling. Thus particularly the surface roughness of the back coat layer of the magnetic recording medium can be adjusted to a value within the desirable range. Also oxygen is supplied to the tape 5 through the oxygen supply pipes 19 from different two directions to form the metallic layer which consists of crystal grains contg. oxygen atoms on the surface of the tape 5. Since these oxygen atoms control the friction coefficient of the metallic layer, the traveling stability of the tape 5 can be improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the contamination of a window and enable continuous observation with the device for evaporating the material in a vessel and depositing the material on a base by arranging a long-sized transparent film in the window for observing the inside of the device. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording medium is produced by evaporating the material put in the. vessel and depositing the material on the base. The transparent film 14 wound like a roll is housed in a case 13 having shielding walls 20a, 20b on the inner side of the window 12 disposed at the vacuum vessel 1 of the device. The device is so constituted that the transparent film 14 is drawn out of a feed side roll 15 and is taken up on a take-up side roll 16. The device is provided with a tension applying means for tensing the transparent film 14 in a longitudinal direction. As a result, the transmittability of light is improved and a sufficient visual field and light quantity are obtd. The distinct observation of the condition in the vacuum vessel 1 from the window 12 at the time of a thin film forming operation is thus possible.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the magnetic recording medium having high performance by providing one surface of a base with a metallic thin film type magnetic film and the other surface with a metallic thin film type nonmagnetic film and irradiating the nonmagnetic film with ions. CONSTITUTION:Al is packed into a crucible 8 and after the inside of a vessel 1 is evacuated to a prescribed vacuum degree, Al is deposited by heating of an electron gun 9 at a prescribed thickness on the rear surface of the base 6. The base 6 is made to travel from a roll 4 to a roll 5. Gaseous N2 is supplied from a gun 11a by an introducing pipe 12a after the formation of the Al film. The film is then irradiated with gaseous Ar by an introducing pipe 12b from an ion gun 11b. The directions of the guns 11a, 11b are set at different directions. The magnetic metallic film 14 in the crucible is deposited on the opposite surface of the base 6 formed with a back coat film 13 in such a manner. The magnetic film surface is forcibly oxidized by supplying O2 from a gaseous O2. introducing pipe to the vapor deposited part at this time. A prescribed coating material is thereafter applied on the surface of the magnetic film 14 and is dried and a lubricating film 15 is superposed thereon, by which the magnetic tape is obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively form a lubrication agent by providing a metal thin film forming means and a spraying means for spraying the vapor of the lubrication agent to a magnetic layer within a vacuum tank to produce a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium manufacturing apparatus is provided with a first vacuum tank 1a to form a magnetic layer and a second vacuum tank 1b to spray the lubrication agent which are coupled through an communicating path. In the first vacuum tank 1a, a cooling can roll 2, ad absorbing plate 3, a crucible 4, a magnetic metal 5 and an oxygen gas outlet nozzle 6 are provided toward the center of the roll 2. The crucible 4 is full of magnetic metal 5 such as Co and Co-Ni alloy, a supply roll 7a is provided in the first vacuum tank 1a while a takeup roll 7b in the second vacuum tank 1b and ths supply roll 7a is wound by non-magnetic carrier 8 along the cooling can roll 2. The tape is guided to the second vacuum tank 1b through the communicating path 1c in contact with the guide roller, wound along the heating can roll 9 and is then taken up by the takeup roll 7a. Thereby, the magnetic recording medium can be obtained economically.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium being excellent in a reproducing characteristic by using magnetic powder which is platy and of which the axis of easy magnetization is within a platy face, as the magnetic powder of a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer provided on a nonmagnetic substrate. Magnetic powder of which the main constituent is hexagonal platy iron obtained from ferrous sulfate by oxidation-reduction and others, of which the axis of easy magnetization is within a platy face and of which the thickness is about 0.003 to 0.1mum, the diameter about 0.03 to 0.5mum and the platy ratio about 3 to 20, for instance, is used as the magnetic powder of the magnetic layer. By these means, the magnetic recording medium being excellent in a reproducing characteristic and having a high performance is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium being free from warp and excellent in a running property and recording-reproducing characteristics by using an alloy of a prescribed composition as a nonmagnetic metal thin film forming material. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium of metal thin film type having a construction wherein a magnetic metal thin film 20 is provided on the one surface side of a substrate 6 and a nonmagnetic metal thin film 21 on the other surface side thereof. An alloy of a formula Cu-Al-X is used as a material for forming this nonmagnetic metal thin film 21. In the formula, X denotes one or two or more elements selected from the group of Mn, Fe and Ni, Manufacture is executed in the same constitution as known publicly in a vacuum evaporation apparatus. Thereby, the magnetic recording medium being free from warp and excellent in a running property, causing dropout little and having excellent recording-reproducing characteristics is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a magnetic recording medium of a metallic thin film type at a good yield by bringing the magnetic recording medium on which a metallic thin film is formed, into contact with a conductive member, thereby relieving the charges on the electrified magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Gaseous oxygen is blown from a nozzle to the part of a substrate 3 where a magnetic metal 6 is deposited by evaporation, and the surface layer part of the magnetic thin film is forcibly oxidized, at the time of forming the magnetic thin film. The substrate 3 passes between conductive rubber rollers 9a and 9b while being brought into pressurized contact therewith during the course that the substrate is subjected to the oxidation treatment and is taken up on a take-up side roll 2b. The charges on the electrified magnetic thin film of the substrate 3 are destaticized by the conductive rubber roller 9a. The conductive rubber roller 9a is irradiated with UV rays from a UV generator 10. Since the free electrons on the surface of the conductive rubber roller 9a are released and decreased by a photoelectric effect, the electrons on the electrified magnetic thin film of the substrate 3 are smoothly migrated to the conductive rubber roller 9a. Then, there is no longer degradation in the traveling characteristics by electrification of the charges and taking-up is well executed. The yield of the magnetic recording medium is improved as well.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a magnetic recording medium of a metallic thin film type at a good yield by destaticizing the charges on the electrified magnetic recording medium on which a metallic thin film is formed. CONSTITUTION:Gaseous oxygen is blown from a nozzle to the part of a substrate 3 where a magnetic metal 6 is deposited by evaporation, and the surface layer part of the magnetic thin film is forcibly oxidized at the time of forming the magnetic thin film. The substrate 3 passes the inside of a steam chamber 10 during the course that the substrate is subjected to the oxidation treatment and is taken up on a take-up side roll 2b. The charges are, therefore, destaticized by the steam in the steam chamber 10 even if the substrate 3 is electrified. There is no longer degradation in traveling characteristics by the electrification of the charges and the substrate 3 is well taken up from a supply side roll 2a through a cooling can 1 on the take-up side roll 2b. Since the traveling characteristic of the substrate 3 is good, the formation of the magnetic metallic thin film is well executed and the magnetic recording medium is obtd. at a good production yield.
