Abstract:
The present invention provides adhesive compositions which include free radical polymerizable compounds and a redox catalyst system to accelerate polymerization thereof. The redox catalyst includes an aniline derivative substituted in the para position by halogen as an accelerator. The use of para-halogenated aniline derivatives as an accelerator in the cure of free radical polymerizable compounds results in good bond strength and greatly improved surface cure of the adhesive composition.
Abstract:
An auxiliary damper (12) is provided for a passenger cab (13) on heavy equipment or the like, the damper (12) being contained within the confines of the primary suspension system (11) and being secured to a first one of a supported element and a support to provide surface effect damping as needed to damp high-amplitude, low-frequency vibration in the region of the resonant frequency of the primary suspension (11). An elastomeric sleeve (16) is bonded to a rigid sleeve member (14) which surrounds the securement bolt (17) for the primary mount. A spool member (18) with internal protrusions (26) engagingly surrounds the elastomeric sleeve (16). The spool (18) has upper and lower flanges (22, 24) which overlie and underlie, respectively, in non-engaged relationship, the second of a supported element and a support. When there is low-amplitude, high frequency motion of the support, this non-engaged relationship allows the supported element to be isolated from such motion. When the amplitude of the vibration becomes large enough as, for example, near resonance, the spool (18) of the auxiliary damper (12) engages its supported element or support and dissipates the vibrational energy as heat to effectively damp the large amplitude motion and maintain a comfortable ride.
Abstract:
A magnetorheological fluid that includes a carrier component and a magnetizable particle component wherein the magnetizable particle component has a fraction packing density of at least 0.50 prior to formulation into the magnetorheological fluid. Use of this magnetorheological fluid can increase the force output of a magnetorheological device without increasing the viscosity of the fluid because the particle volume concentration in a working gap of the device increases when a magnetic field is applied.
Abstract:
A magnetorheological material that includes magnetic particles; at least one water-soluble suspending agent selected from the group consisting of cellulose ether and biosynthetic gum; and water. The material can have a high particle loading, minimizes waste disposal problems, and can be produced at a lower cost relative to magnetorheological materials that include hydrophobic-oil type fluids as a carrier fluid.

Cyclic acetal derivative of a resole includes the reaction product of an ortho resole compound with a carbonyl compound or a carbonyl compound derivative. The cyclic acetal derivatives of phenolic resole compounds exhibit enhanced storage stability and can be readily activated at elevated temperatures to prepare phenolic based adhesives and coatings.
Abstract:
An active mount (10) for fixed wing applications. One aspect of the invention provides decoupling of two tones which are close in frequency by positioning the mount actuators (16) and error sensors (18) in the primary transmission path of the disturbance vibration and by providing adequate spatial separation between the two sets of error sensors to reduce or eliminate cross-coupling of the signals. Another aspect of the invention utilizes orthogonally positioned actuators (16) with corresponding actuators of paired mounts being focalized for each engine (17, 19).
Abstract:
A mounting assembly (20) which includes dissimilar radial spring rates in the various radial directions by varying the socket geometry and dimensional characteristics of a receiving member (22) for accepting a standard round cross section, center-bonded mounting (21). A reduction in spring rate in the range of between 1.25 and 2.5 times can be achieved by modifying the socket geometry to provide superior lateral vibration isolation, yet, a standard center-bonded mounting still can be utilized providing cost-effective applications.
Abstract:
A polyester-modified polydiene/acrylourethane oligomer which is the reaction product of an olefinically unsaturated compound and a polyester-modified polydiene urethane prepolymer. The polyester-modified polydiene urethane prepolymer is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and a polyester-modified polydiene-polyol. The polydiene polyol is modified to contain polyester functionality by reacting the polydiene polyol with a polyester-forming monomer such as a lactone, a hydroxyl-functional carboxylic acid or a hydroxyl-functional carboxylic acid ester. The acrylourethane oligomer may be utilized in combination with a reactive diluent system to form a radiation-curable composition which does not undergo phase separation upon storage. Upon cure, the radiation-curable composition forms a protective coating which exhibits excellent resistance to stain and wear.
Abstract:
An aqueous adhesive composition containing a chlorosulfonated polyethylene latex, a polymaleimide compound, a nitroso compound and a metal oxide. The adhesive composition can be effectively utilized without a primer component and exhibits an unusually high resistance to pre-bake conditions and adverse environments. The adhesive also possesses the ability to effectively bond a variety of substrates.
Abstract:
Magnetorheological (MR) fluid dampers (16) are optimized. Dimensional relationships involved in the flow of magnetic flux are related to an operational parametric ratio of magnetic flux density in the fluid to the flux density in the steel. A magnetic valve (30) is utilized to change the flow parameters of the MR fluid and, hence, the operational characteristics of the damper (16). Several embodiments depicting improved piston designs, including spool as well as toroidal configurations, are disclosed. In addition, both single (16) and twin-tube (16) housing designs are presented, along with several sealless designs. Baffle plates (50) and toroidal magnetic segments (40) interspersed with flow slots (56) are utilized to increase contact between the fluid and the magnetic coil (40).
