    Abstract: This specification discloses a low-insertion-force connector for connecting a daughter printed circuit board to a mother board. A G- or U-shaped contact (58) is disposed in a housing so that spring arms penetrate opposing sides of the cavity (28). Mating ramp surfaces and latches (92) on latch arms (86, 88) center the connector in the housing and urge contact pads (60, 62) into electrical and mechanical contact with a base circuit board. Shrouds (22, 24) on the housing protect various portions of the connector from harmful contact with the edge of a printed circuit board when being mounted in the housing.

    Abstract: A cable connector is provided having an insulative housing (26), a conductive shield (35) and a pair of latching members (56). Each latching member (56) has free ends (59) with engagement teeth formed thereon which are separated by an intervening engagement notch (65). The sidewalls (68a, 68b) of the engagement notch are flat and define hard stop surfaces in opposing directions for engagement by each latching member with an opposing board connector. The free ends further include ramped surfaces (69) leading to the engagement notch to form cam surfaces that depress each latching member when the cable connector is mated to a board connector. Each latching members may also include locating tabs (84) captured in vertical movement by the cable connector body.

    Abstract: A circuit board (200, 300, 400) design is disclosed that is useful in high speed differential signal applications uses either a via arrangement or a circuit trace exit structure. In the via arrangement, sets of differential signal pair vias (301, 303, 401, 402) and an associated ground (302) are arranged adjacent to each other in a repeating pattern. The differential signal vias (301, 303, 591) of each pair are spaced closer to their associated ground via (302a, 593a) than the spacing between the adjacent differential signal pair associated ground (302b, 593b) so that differential signal vias exhibit a preference for electrically coupling to their associated ground vias. The circuit trace exit structure involves the exit portions of the circuit traces (420, 550) of the differential signal vias (401, 402, 591) to follow a path where the traces then meet with and join to the transmission line portions (552) of the conductive traces.

    Abstract: An angular coaxial connector module (12) is provided for installation on a printed circuit board. The module includes at least a pair of angled coaxial conductors (28,30) each including first and second legs (32,34) joined at an elbow (36). The distal end (32a) of each first leg (32) defines a contact end of the respective conductor. The distal end (34a) of each second leg (34) defines a terminal end for attachment to the printed circuit board. A dielectric sheath (26) is disposed about each angled coaxial conductor leaving the distal ends thereof exposed. A tubular conductive shield (14,38) is provided about each dielectric sheath. A grounding means (18,60) couples the shields to the printed circuit board. A unitary dielectric housing (16) is disposed about at least portions (38) of the shields (14,38) to hold the connector in a module.

    Abstract: A surface mount connector has a dielectric housing with first and second opposing mating faces. The first mating face includes first terminals and the second mating face includes second terminals. The first and second terminals each have a tail portion, a contact portion and a terminal retention portion. The terminal retention portion engages the connector housing, and an opening, or hole, is formed in the retention section of the terminal. This opening is sized to keep sufficient metal remaining to retain the terminal in the housing, yet having sufficient surface area to provide a desired capacitance and/or inductance for tuning the impedance of the terminal to the preselected level, the second terminals each having a second terminal retention section with a central portion removed thereof, the removed central portion being spaced away from the first terminal retention area, while minimizing the surface area, size and shape of the central section for tuning the impedance of the terminal to a preselected range.
