Abstract: A SIMM socket with a metal latch (120) for retaining a SIMM therein is provided. The socket includes a housing (160) having a SIMM receiving slot (166) and a plurality of terminals (30) with contact beams extending into the slot. The SIMM is inserted into the slot in a first angular alignment with minimal insertion forces, and is rotted into a second alignment for achieving high quality electrical connection with the contact beams of the respective terminals. A metal latch (120) is provided for releasably retaining the SIMM in the preferred angular alignment within the socket. The latch is stamped and formed from a unitary piece of metallic material and includes a housing engaging portion (122) mounted around a mounting post (174) of the housing and a deflectable SIMM engaging portion (130). The housing includes walls for controlling the types and ranges of deflection that are permitted for the SIMM engaging portion.

Abstract: A mounting peg system is disclosed in an electrical connector (10) adapted for surface mounting on a printed circuit board (12). The connector includes an elongated insulating housing (14) defining a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction (B) of the connector. At least a pair of mounting pegs (22, 26) are spaced longitudinally of the housing for mounting in a respective pair of mounting holes (24, 27) in the printed circuit board. The mounting peg system includes one (22) of the pair of mounting pegs being configured to be relatively rigid in both the longitudinal and transverse directions of the connector to securely retain the connector on the circuit board. The other (26) of the pair of mounting pegs is configured to be relatively rigid in the transverse direction and relatively compliant in the longitudinal direction to accommodate longitudinal thermal expansion of the housing relative to the circuit board.

Abstract: The electrical connector includes an elongated dielectric housing having an elongated slot disposed generally along a longitudinal axis of the housing for receiving, edgewise, a printed circuit board. A number of terminals are inserted through a bottom terminating face of the housing into a plurality of passages along at least one side of the slot. Each terminal includes a retention portion press-fit in a retention section of a respective passage. The retention section includes inner side walls and an outer side wall which guides, locates and supports the retention portion and, thereby, the terminal within its respective passage. The retention area of the outer side wall is substantially greater than the retention area of the inner side walls.

Abstract: The connector comprises a connector housing having an elongated card slot disposed in it and extending between two opposing end portions of the connector. The card slot has a predetermined longitudinal axis and is adapted to receive the circuit card edge in it in an electrically operative relationship. The connector housing is defined by a pair of opposing sidewalls extending generally parallel to the axis and an endwall integral with and extending between the sidewalls. The endwall has a slot to define a pair of spaced apart, upstanding endwall sections. Each endwall section extends generally perpendicularly from an end portion of one of the sidewalls to define an L-shaped structure. A number of contact terminals are disposed in the housing. Each terminal has a portion positioned in the card slot for slidingly engaging the circuit card upon insertion of ir into the card slot. A latch/eject mechanism is positioned on at least one end portion of the connector housing, and includes a latch/eject member which is rotatable between a first position at which the circuit card is retained within the card slot and a second position at which at least a portion of the circuit card is ejected from the card slot and at which a portion of the latch/eject member extends through the slot in the endwall. The latch/eject mechanism includes a device for limiting the rotation of the latch/eject member during ejection of the circuit card from the card slot. The rotation limiting device includes an engagement surface formed on the latch/eject member. The engagement surface is generally vertical and engages one of the connector housing endwall sections when the latch/eject member is moved to the second position to thereby limit rotation of the latch/eject member. A device rotatably retains the latch/eject member within the housing.
