Abstract: La presente invencion proporciona un método y aparato de codificacion de señales digitales, un medio de registro de señales digitales, y un método y aparato de descodificacion de señales digitales que mejoran las capacidades de correccion de error y reducen la redundancia con una estructura sencilla cuando la señal digital se codifica o descodifica añadiendo un codigo de correccion de error. Aumentando la longitud del codigo, el numero de paridad de correccion y la longitud de restriccion de intercalado a más de la norma del disco compacto cuando la señal digital se codifica añadiendo un codigo de correccion de error, se puede reducir la redundancia y puede aumentarse el tamaño del aparato que puede registrarse.

Abstract: El aparato y método para descodificar páginas de datos de subtítulo que se suministran como páginas de informacion que incluye encabezados y datos de página respectivos (es decir, datos de carácter de subtítulo) que se sobreponen en una señal de video. Cada página de informacion recibida se almacena en una memoria de tipo de anillo como una página respectiva en la misma, y el encabezado de una página almacenada en la memoria se detecta antes de realizar una lectura previa de la misma. El encabezado detectado se lee de la memoria una segunda vez y el dato de página se lee de la memoria durante un tiempo de conformidad con un cierto dato incluido en el encabezado de la prelectura. El dato de página se descodifica y se suministra como una salida que va al combinarse con la señal de video.

Abstract: An optical disk having a diameter less than 140mm and, a thickness of 1.2mm +/- 0.1mm, with a plurality of record tracks having data recorded thereon as embossed pits representing information and exhibiting a track pitch in the range between 0.646 mu m and 1.05 mu m; with the tracks being divided into a lead-in area, a program area and a lead-out area. The data includes table of contents (TOC) information recorded in a plurality of sectors in at least one TOC track and user information recorded in a plurality of sectors in user tracks. The user information is comprised of MPEG-compressed video data, which may exhibit any one of difference MPEG formats, and compressed audio data, which likewise may exhibit an MPEG format, a PCM format or the like. The TOC information includes addresses of start sectors recorded in the user tracks and also includes application table of contents (ATOC) information which identifies various parameters for accessing and using the user information. The data (both user, TOC and ATOC information) is encoded in a long distance error correction code having at least eight parity symbols.

Abstract: In a technique for decoding pages of subtitle data supplied as information pages which include respective headers and page data (i.e. subtitle character data) which are superimposed on a video signal, each received information page is stored in a ring-type memory (302) as a respective page therein, and the header of a page stored in memory is detected (303) prior to being pre-read therefrom. The detected header is read from memory a second time and the page data is read from memory at a time in accordance with certain data included in the pre-read header. The page data is decoded and supplied as an output to be combined with the video signal.
