    Abstract: This apparatus for producing a sugar solution that uses biomass as feedstock comprises: a device for carrying out high-temperature processing of a biomass feedstock; a cooling means (90) for cooling a biomass liquid that has undergone high-temperature processing; an enzyme saccharification tank (103) in which a cooled liquid (101B) is enzymatically saccharified; a foreign substance removal unit (113) provided with a solid-liquid separation device (112) and a microfiltration (MF) membrane (113a) for removing water-insoluble substances contained in a sugar solution (104) extracted from the enzyme saccharification tank (103); a dilution tank (132) disposed downstream from the foreign substance removal unit (113), in which the sugar solution from which water-insoluble substances have been removed is diluted by adding water; a water separation unit (116) provided with a reverse osmosis (RO) membrane (116a) for removing water (114) from the diluted sugar solution to obtain a concentrated sugar solution (115).

    Abstract: A method for cellulolysis which uses a cellulase from a filamentous fungus as a saccharifying enzyme, and in which: cellulose undergoes primary hydrolysis by adding a saccharifying enzyme thereto, after which the primary hydrolysis product is separated into a primary sugar solution and solid material by solid-liquid separation; water is added to the solid material, and a secondary hydrolysis is carried out, after which the secondary hydrolysis product is separated into a secondary sugar solution and residue by solid-liquid separation; and the primary sugar solution and/or the secondary sugar solution is/are passed through an ultrafiltration membrane, after which the saccharifying enzyme is collected from the film side and the sugar solution is collected from the permeating side. Thus provided is a method for reducing the amount of an enzyme such as cellulase used in a method for manufacturing a sugar solution from a pretreated cellulose material.

More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for producing a sugar liquor, said method comprising: a step of causing an alkaline aqueous medium to pass through a cellulose-containing biomass to produce an alkaline filtrate; a circulation filtration step of causing the alkaline filtrate to pass through the cellulose-containing biomass repeatedly to produce a cellulose-containing solid material; and a step of hydrolyzing the cellulose-containing solid material to produce the sugar liquor.
