    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital video tape having good durability and a little dropout number and to provide a polyester film for a magnetic recording medium which is suitable for the production of the tape. SOLUTION: This polyester film for a magnetic recording medium has a discontinuous coating film essentially comprising a polymer and fine particles on one surface and has minute surface projections of 10 to 50 nm height by the minute particles. In the polyester film, the density of the minute surface projections having 10 to 50 nm height is 1×106 to 1×108 pieces/mm2. The discontinuous part of the discontinuous coating film is coated with a lumpy material, and the discontinuous part coated with the lumpy material is lower than the surface of the discontinuous coating film. A ferromagnetic metal thin film layer is formed on the polyester film for a magnetic recording medium.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film for a magnetic recording medium which is preferable to manufacture a digital video tape whose drop-out number is small. SOLUTION: A polyester film comprises 3-90 millions/mm2 of minute surface projections having a height of 10-50 nm provided on one side (A) of the polyester film, wherein the surface projections having a height of 50-120 nm in presence of the surface (A) of the polyester film have 40 thousands/mm2 or less and the surface defects having a height above 120 nm have 400/100 cm2 or less. A ferromagnetic metal thin film layer is provided on the film, so as to obtain a magnetic recording tape.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic tape free from cut at a feeding surface even at the time of accelerating vacuum depositing velocity and heat deterioration of a film by incorporating aluminum silicate particles each having specified mean particle size, and specifying SRa value and SRz value of one side surface. SOLUTION: An SRa of one side surface A of the polyester film is preferably 2 to 4 nm so as to reduce as small wear as possible by a video head at the time of recording/reproducing a ferromagnetic metal thin film formed on the surface A by a vacuum deposition and to hold output characteristics of a DVC tape satisfactory. And, an SRz value is preferably 10 to 40 nm so as to hold durability of the thin film of the DVC tape at the time of repeatedly recording/ reproducing many times and to reduce as little drop-out as possible by the DVC tape. Surface protrusions are formed of aluminum silicate particles each having mean particle size of 100 to 500 nm existing in the film on one side surface B of the polyester film.

SOLUTION: The SRa value of the one side surface A of this polyester film is 2 to 4nm and the SRz value is 10 to 40nm. The SRa value of the other one side surface B is 5 to 15nm and the SRz value is 5 to 250nm. An easily slipperable coating layer formed by coating application does not exist on the outer side of the surface B. The number of the projections of >=540nm in height is 2 to 20 pieces/100cm . The polyester film is used by providing the outer side of the surface A with a ferromagnetic metallic thin-film layer.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base film for a long-time recordable digital video tape good in vacuum vapor deposition processability and having strong electromagnetic conversion characteristics and good durability. SOLUTION: This film is obtained by laminating a layer A composed of polyester and a layer B composed of polyester containing fine particles. In this case, the SRa value of the outer surface of the layer A is 1-5nm and the SRz value thereof is 10-50nm while the SRa value of the outer surface of the layer B is 10-50nm, the SRz value thereof is 50-200nm and the Young's modulus thereof is 4.90-7.85GPa/9.81-14.71GPa in longitudinal direction/lateral direction. A ferromagnetic metal membrane layer is provided on the surface of a polyester film with a thickness of 6μm or less for a magnetic recording medium and the outer surface of the layer A of the composite polyester film thereof.
