    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical properties, and resistance to oxidation, abrasion, and heat by thermally reacting and/or thermally melting a specific random copolymer with an arom. polycyclic compd. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. random copolymer (A) comprising a transition metal-contg. organosilicon polymer and an arom. polycyclic compd. obtd. from a petroleum- or coal-derived pitch thermally treated and eliminated org. solvent soluble components, wherein Si atoms of said organosilicon polymer are bonded at least partially to C atoms on arom. rings of said polycyclic compd. through Si-C linkage, and 5 to 900 pts.wt. arom. polycyclic compd. (B) comprising a mesophase or two phases, i.e., said mesophase and an optically isotropic phase, are thermally reacted and/or thermally melted at 200 to 500 deg.C. Said organosilicon polymer mainly comprises a bonding unit, Si-CH2, or said bonding unit and another bonding unit, Si-Si, contains H, a lower alkyl, phenyl, or silyl group as a side chain attached to Si, and contains at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, and Hf bonded directly or through an oxygen atom to at least a part of Si atoms in said bonding units in the main polymer chain. Said arom. polycyclic compd. (B) is obtd. by thermally treating org. solvent insoluble components in a thermally treated petroleum- or coal-derived pitch.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject fiber having excellent strength, elastic modulus, adhesion, etc., by reacting an organic silicon polymer with a pitch, with a specific transition metal compound and subsequently with a polycyclic aromatic compound. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100 pts.wt. of an organic silicon polymer prepared by heating a polymethylsilane is reacted with (B) preferably 83-4900 pts.wt. of a pitch containing preferably 5-98wt.% of a component insoluble in an organic solvent such as toluene e.g. in an inert gas, reacted with (C) a transition metal compound of a formula: MX4 (M is Ti, Zr or Hf; X is OC4H9, etc.) preferably at 100-500 deg.C and subsequently melt-mixed with (D) a mesophase polycyclic aromatic compound having a melting point of 200-400 deg.C and a weight-average mol.wt. of 200-10000 preferably at 200-500 deg.C, followed by spinning the mixture to provide the objective fiber.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the production of high-dense sintered products from an ultrafinely pulverized ZrB2 of not so high purity, by adding an organosilicon compound, which can be converted mainly into SiC by pyrolysis, to a ZrB2 forming the mixture, and firing under normal pressure. CONSTITUTION:ZrB2 is pulverized to less than 10mu particle sizes. The ZrB2 powder is combined with an organosilicon compound which can be converted into mainly SiC by pyrolysis. The organosilicon compound has the main skeleton mainly composed of Si and C atoms and the side-chains almost of which are converted into amorphous products or fine particles over 600 deg.C. The amount of the silicon compound is preferably about 5-40wt.% based on the ZrB2 powder. The mixture is formed, gradually burned in an inert atmosphere up to 500 deg.C to remove plasticizers or such and sintered at about 2,000-2,200 deg.C under normal pressure.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a harmful exhaust gas removing agent of high collecting speed without a large-scale humidying device by using an alkaline earth metal compound containing water as an effective component. CONSTITUTION:Water is added to an alkaline earth metal compound such as calcium hydroxide powder or the like, and after granulating, the same is dried and dried compound is calcined to prepare a lump of removing agent. Water content is absorbed to said removing agent by introducing nitrogen gas containing steam. The harmful exhaust gas removing agent thus prepared is filled into a column, and the exhaust gas containing gaseous harmful component like silane, diborane, hydrogen selenide or the like is flowed through. The gaseous harmful component is collected by the alkaline earth metal compound dissolved in the water content.
