The invention relates to a liner- free label activator, adapted to be joined to another piece of equipment, such as a thermal printer. The activator has a housing including a reservoir for containing a solvent and a pump connected to the reservoir. The activator also has an applicator connected to the pump for applying solvent to a liner- free label passing thereby, an activator control system to connect to a control system of the printer, and structure for connecting the housing to the printer.

A joint tape to be applied to wallboard is provided and includes a base substrate having opposing sides. In certain embodiments, a first adhesive layer is applied to one of the sides of the base substrate and a second adhesive layer is applied to the first adhesive layer, where the first adhesive layer is different than the second adhesive layer, in preferred embodiments the second adhesive being activatable by water. In certain other embodiments, two different adhesives are used in a single adhesive layer. In use, the joint tape is positioned over and removably secured to a joint or corner between adjacent wallboard panels using the first adhesive layer. After the joint tape is in position, joint compound is applied to the joint tape, and the water in the joint tape activates it to form a secure bond with the wallboard panels.

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a label laminate (1). The method comprises unwinding (11) a first material layer, unwinding (12) a second material layer, coating (15) the first material layer (2,4) with at least one water based adhesive layer (6), supporting the coated first material layer (2,4) by a metal belt while heating said at least one water based adhesive layer by said metal belt (10) in order to dry said at least one water based adhesive layer (6), and laminating the first material layer (2,4) having at least one water based adhesive layer together with the second material layer (2, 4) in order to form the label laminate (1). The present invention relates to an adhesive containing a primary water soluble adhesive agent, an adhesion promoter for providing initial tack to the composition, and a water soluble polymer comprising an imine compound in an amount sufficient to provide adhesion to polymeric films and the anchorage of said films to substrates. The primary adhesive agent is generally present in an amount of about 2 to 60 % by weight, the adhesion promoter is generally present in an amount of about 5 to 30 % by weight and the imine compound is generally present in the amount of about 0.1 to 7 % by weight of the adhesive, with the balance being water. The adhesive includes one or more of the following optional: primary chelating agent, secondary chelating agent, thinning agent, wetting agent or humectant. The invention also relates to method of making the adhesive and articles incorporating the adhesive.

The method includes forming at least one water based adhesive layer on a belt, drying said at least one water based adhesive layer on the belt, unwinding a first material layer, unwinding a second material layer, attaching said at least one dried water based adhesive layer to the surface of the first material layer, and laminating the first material layer comprising at least one water based adhesive layer together with the second material layer in order to form the label laminate. The invention also relates to a label laminate and to a system for manufacturing a label laminate.
