Abstract:
A cylinder block and crankcase for a liquid-cooled internal-combustion engine is to be constructed by composite casting, a magnesium case being cast around an aluminum power unit block. The cylinder block and crankcase is conceived such that the aluminum power unit block is significantly used for the distribution of force between the cylinder head and the crankshaft bearing caps as well as for the guiding of the cooling water, in which case, the magnesium case is free of a cooling water guidance and predominantly used for the guiding of lubricating oil and, in addition, is correspondingly designed for the proportional stiffening against bending and torsion loads.
Abstract:
A two-stroke, U-type uniflow engine includes a cylinder block forming parallel first and second cylinders and a common combustion chamber connecting the first and second cylinders. First and second pistons are mounted for reciprocal, linear movement within the first and second cylinders respectively. The engine also includes a crank shaft having a crank pin and a one-piece forked connecting rod connecting each of the first and second pistons to the crank pin. The connecting rod is elastically, bilaterally flexible to accommodate variations between a maximum distance between the first and second pistons and a minimum distance between the first and second pistons and is in a relaxed state half-way between the maximum distance and the minimum distance. The central wall has a slot for passage of the connecting rod therethrough and angled notches which correspond to maximum angles of the connecting rod. The connecting rod is designed to minimize weight and length and the engine bore and stroke are selected to minimize the difference between the maximum and minimum distance of the wrist pin displacement in order to reduce vibrations and to increase engine output by maintaining high crankcase compression.

An aluminum-lithium based alloy which comprises 10-20 wt. % silicon, 1.5-5.0 wt. % copper, 1.0-4.0 wt. % lithium, 0.45-1.5 wt. % magnesium, 0.01-1.3 wt. % iron, 0.01-0.5 wt. % manganese, 0.01-1.5 wt. % nickel, 0.01-1.5 wt. % zinc, 0.01-0.5 wt. % silver, 0.01-0.25 wt. % titanium and the balance aluminum. The alloy is utilized to cast high temperature assemblies including pistons which have a reduction in density and similar mechanical properties including tensile strengths to alloys presently used.
Abstract:
In a pressure-diecast light-alloy piston for internal combustion engines, which piston comprises shaped fibrous bodies which are partly embedded in at least one of the piston head, ring zone, piston pin bosses and skirt of the piston, which bodies comprise short ceramic fibers, lying in a common plane and in said plane having a random orientation, the improvement wherein the piston (1) is made of a high-temperature magnesium alloy, the piston skirt at least on its sliding surfaces has a chemically applied or electrodeposited metallic sliding layer (3) which has a thickness of about 10 to 30 .mu.m and a hardness of about 740 to 850 HV.sub.0.01, and the inside surface of the piston is coated with a thin plastic paint layer (2) or an anodized magnesium oxide layer.
Abstract:
A fuel ignition products adhesive coating is disposed on the surface of an internal combustion engine piston. The coating protects the surface from corrosion and wear caused by the combustion of fuel in the cylinder.
Abstract:
A sintered metal vane hub and a vane blade formed of an epoxy and woven glass cloth laminate are assembled by die casting magnesium or injecting plastic into recesses on the hub and blade. The vane is shown in a semi-articulated vane pump used to inject air into the exhaust system of a vehicle engine.
Abstract:
An engine operating machine having a cylinder made of magnesium alloy which is excellent in weight reduction while maintaining durability of the engine is provided. The engine operating machine has: an engine having a cylinder 16 having a piston 15 embedded in a cylinder bore 23; and an operating tool driven by the engine. The cylinder 16 is made of magnesium alloy. A nickel plating film or a copper plating film is formed on the cylinder bore 23 or the entire of the cylinder including the cylinder bore 23 and an outer surface of the cylinder 16.
Abstract:
A casting steel having high strength and low thermal expansion which has a chemical composition in mass %: C: 0.1 to 0.8 %, Si: 0.1 to 1.0 %, Mn: 0.1 to 1.0 %, S: 0.01 to 0.1 %, Ni: more than 40 % and not more than 50 %, Co: 4 % or less (including 0 %), Cr: more than 1.5 % and not more than 4 %, Al: 0.01 to 0.1 %, Mg: 0.001 to 0.1 % and balance: substantially Fe. The casting steel can be suitably used for a part having a ring shape which exhibits a low average thermal expansion coefficient in the temperature range of 20 to 500˚C, a high strength at 500˚C and good resistance to oxidation and thus can be used as a blade ring or a ring for retaining a seal ring for use in a gas turbine.
