    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for reducing the discharge of landfill greenhouse gases using microorganisms inhabiting the covering layer of a landfill. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for selecting microorganisms inhabiting the covering layer of a landfill and performing biomineralization or methaneoxidization, a device used for the same, and a method for reducing the discharge of greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide generated in a landfill using the method. Methaneoxidizing bacteria and biomineralizing bacteria selected according to the device and method of the present invention convert methane and carbon dioxide into carbonate which is a mineral so that the discharge of greenhouse gases is reduced. Accordingly, the method for reducing the discharge of landfill greenhouse gases costs less than an existing physicochemical carbon dioxide reducing and storing technique and has high reducing efficiency. Moreover, carbon dioxide is stored and isolated in a stabilized mineral form, so that a separate storing space in the ground or the sea is not needed. The biologically produced carbonate can improve the strength of the ground such as a landfill, which can subside.
