    Abstract: In the present invention, it has been discovered that Scanning Tunneling Microscopy is a useful tool for imaging a surface on a nanometer scale and/or fabricating on a nano-sized scale by transferring a particle (e.g., protei n) from one location to another. This is accomplished by a method of transfe rring a material from a first location to a second location comprising the s teps of providing a stylus, applying a bias to the stylus, providing a surfa ce, and changing the bias of the stylus such that the material is transferre d from the first location to the second location.
