Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing a coated metal wire for reinforcing an elastomeric material, as well as to such a coated metal wire. Preferably, the wire comprises a metal core (6) and a coating layer made of made of a metal alloy material, such as for example brass. The method of the invention comprises the steps of conveying the metal core along a predetermined path in a substantially continuous manner, the predetermined path being positioned in proximity of at least one cathode (1, 2) made of a metal alloy material having a first composition, and of sputtering the at least one cathode (1, 2) onto the metal core (6) being conveyed along the predetermined path to obtain the coating layer, at least one portion of the predetermined path lying outside of a volume defined by a generatrix substantially perpendicular to a contour line of the at least one cathode (1, 2), so that the coating layer formed when the metal core is conveyed in correspondence of the at least one portion of said predetermined path has a second composition different from the first composition. In this way, the reactivity of the coated wire can be advantageously varied as a function of the reactivity of the wire elastomeric material, so as to allow to produce a metal wire coated with brass (or with another metal alloy) suitable for elastomeric materials having different compositions.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a metal wire comprising a steel core and a metal coating layer in a radially outer position with respect to said steel core. The metal coating layer comprises an alloy of at least two metal components. The process comprises the steps of coating the steel core by depositing onto the steel core separate layers of the two metal components, each layer having a thickness not higher than 50 nm, and drawing the coated core to form the alloy of said at least two metal components. Preferably, the deposition step is carried out by means of a plasma deposition technique.
Abstract:
A method for producing a metal wire for reinforcing an elastomeric material as well as a metal wire and a metal cord for reinforcing such an elastomeric material are described. The metal wire comprises a metal core having a predetermined initial diameter and a metal coating layer. The method comprises the steps of: a) submitting the core to at least one surface treatment for predisposing the surface of the core to being coated with the coating layer; b) thermally treating the core; c) depositing the metal coating layer to a predetermined initial thickness on the core by means of a plasma deposition technique; and d) drawing the coated core until the core has a final diameter smaller than said predetermined initial diameter and the metal coating layer has a final thickness smaller than said predetermined initial thickness. Advantageously, it is possible to obtain a wire coated in a uniform and homogeneous manner, including a core having a smooth surface suitable for the deposition of the coating layer and a structure suitable for the cold deformation involved in the drawing step.
Abstract:
The process for manufacturing a steel wire comprises: providing a steel wire; austenitizing said steel wire; patenting said steel wire; drawing said steel wire. The patenting of said steel wire comprises: slow cooling said steel wire to a first predetermined temperature; quick cooling the steel wire to a second predetermined temperature; keeping said steel wire at said second predetermined temperature. During the slow cooling, the steel wire substantially keeps its austenite structure unaltered; with the subsequent quick cooling, the steel wire is taken to the best conditions in order to start the phase change in which the austenite structure is transformed into a pearlite structure.

Abstract:
A method for producing a metal wire intended to reinforce elastomeric materials, of the type comprising a core and a metal coating layer, as well as a metal wire and a metal cord intended to reinforce such materials are described. The method comprising the following steps of: a) conveying a metal core having a predetermined initial diameter along a predetermined conveying direction; b) depositing a metal coating layer having a predetermined initial thickness on said metal core by means of a plasma deposition technique; and c) drawing the core thus coated until a wire comprising a core having a final diameter smaller than said predetermined initial diameter and a metal coating layer having a final thickness smaller than said predetermined initial thickness is obtained. Advantageously, it is possible to obtain a wire coated in a uniform and homogeneous manner, in which the variations of amount of metal deposited and the concentration gradients of the components of metal alloys are minimized both in the axial direction and in the radial direction.
