Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a traffic management system that utilizes route information provided by on board navigation systems installed in commuter vehicles to predict traffic congestion and determine appropriate traffic management procedures. Traffic management procedures include adjusting the timing of traffic signals, providing traffic updates/instructions to roadside Dynamic Message Signs (DMSs), actuating movable lane barriers, etc. The predictive traffic management capabilities provided by the present system offer an advantage over existing systems because the present system can more reliably predict when and where traffic congestion will occur and implement proactive, rather than reactive, traffic management procedures to deal with congestion before it occurs.
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling the processing of content in a vehicle involves restricting content with a requirement of at least one vehicle condition. A request is received to process the restricted content with a content processing device. A vehicle system or controller obtains vehicle information of the vehicle. The vehicle system determines whether the vehicle information meets the requirement of the vehicle condition restricting the content. If met, the content processing device is allowed to process the restricted content. Otherwise, the content processing device is prevented from processing the restricted content.
Abstract:
A method for dynamically building and maintaining call priority information for use in emergency calls from a client device to an emergency call center is provided. The method provides a plurality of communication connections operable on at least one communication system, and each of the plurality of communication link comprises a plurality of metrics. The method further determines by the client device whether each of the plurality of communication connections is active, and evaluates each of the plurality of metrics for each of the active communication connections, and orders sequentially the plurality of active communication connections based on at least one of the plurality of evaluated metrics.

Abstract:
A device automatically determines its location in a vehicle by using images/measurements from a camera. The images are compared to stored data, and a recognition algorithm determines the closest match and the location of the device. The camera rotates itself such that the lens is substantially aligned with the user interface of the device. Upon orienting itself in this manner, the camera captures an image which allows the device to determine which occupants of the vehicle can access the device. In other embodiments, the orientation of the device can be determined by determining the offset angle between a reference line and the user interface of the device. The occupants having access to the device can be determined with reference to a look-up table of angles and vehicle areas. The operation of the device can be advantageously modified based upon its location and which occupants are able to access the device.
Abstract:
A method for selection of content on a device allows a radio to scan (406) for desired (e.g. audio) selections being broadcast in accordance with a defined priority list that has been pre-stored (404). A found selection is played (408) in order of priority and then placed back (410) in the priority list in accordance with a prioritization logic. Desired content is identified by a digital signature or audio clip, for example. Associated with the identifier can be user interface settings (400), such as audio controls, and even vehicle settings such as window position, sun roof, moon roof, or convertible roof top, for example. The user interface can be used to store (402) and sort identifiers and to provide control settings to the user in audio or video format.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for a communication system for a vehicle service station The communication system includes a local area network (LAN) (18) and a local communication device (12) operable on the LAN for the vehicle service station The invention is operable with a vehicle having a diagnostic system, a transceiver operable on the LAN, a transceiver operable on a wide area network (WAN) (20), and a memory for storing information on the vehicle The local communication device of the service station is operable to download information from the vehicle Preferably, the WAN is used to direct the vehicle to perform a diagnostic which can be downloaded by the local communication device over the WAN

Abstract:
A system and method for providing content from a source to a vehicle is disclosed. The content is restricted by associating the content with at least one requirement for vehicle information from a vehicle to which the content is provided. When restricted content is requested, a vehicle system obtains vehicle related information from the vehicle. The vehicle information is transferred to the vehicle system from the source, and the restricted content is transferred from the source to the vehicle system. The vehicle system, the source, or both determine whether the vehicle information meets the at least one requirement restricting the content. As long as the requirement for vehicle information is met, processing of the restricted content is allowed.
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling the processing of content in a vehicle involves restricting content to at least one predefined zone within a vehicle. A request is received to process the restricted content with a content processing device. A vehicle system or controller of the vehicle obtains zone information from the vehicle. The vehicle system determines from the zone information whether the content processing device is designated for the predefined zone or whether the predefined zone is occupied. If the content processing device is designated for the predefined zone restricting the content or the zone is occupied, then the content processing device is allowed to process the restricted content. Otherwise, the content processing device is prevented from processing the restricted content.
