Abstract:
759,779. Centrifugal pumps. SHARE, B. Dec. 4, 1953, No. 33777/53. Class 110(1) A priming pump is movably mounted so as to be biased away from the main pump to establish a driving connection; upon attainment of a pre-set valve of the discharge pressure of the main pump, means responsive to the discharge pressure move the priming pump towards the main pump to disconnect the drive. The priming pump 25 is pivotally mounted on a plat- - form 24, a spring 30 keeping the driving belt 31 at the proper tension. The priming pump 25 draws liquid through a flexible pipe 22 from a chamber 16 in communication with the discharge 12 of the centrifugal main pump 10, and discharges it through a pipe 29. On completion of priming, a float valve 20, pivoted at 17, closes an opening 21 to interrupt the flow of liquid to the priming pump 25, and a spring-biased valve 15 opens to permit flow of liquid to the discharge pipe 14. The discharge pressure of the centrifugal pump 10 is communicated through a pipe 45 to a chamber 35 where it acts on a flexible diaphragm 40. Movement of the diaphragm 40 in response to the discharge pressure is communicated by a link 41 to the priming pump 25, which is swung about its pivot against the action of spring 30 to remove the driving tension from belt 31. Guards 34, 36 prevent displacement of belt 31 when the latter is slack. The pressure in the chamber 35 relative to the discharge pressure of pump 10 is adjustable by means of a valve 42 in the pipe 45 and a valve 44 at an outlet 43. These valves may be manipulated either to keep the priming pump 25 in continuous operation or to render it inoperative. Specification 759,780 is referred to.
Abstract:
759,780. Centrifugal pumps. SHARE, B. Dec. 4, 1953, No. 33778/53. Class 110(1) A priming pump is mounted so as to be movable under gravity away from the main pump to establish a driving connection by which it is driven from the main pump; upon attainment of a pre-set value of the discharge pressure of the main pump, means responsive to the discharge pressure move the priming pump towards the main pump to disconnect the drive The priming pump 25 is mounted on platform 24 pivoted at 28 so that its weight keeps the driving belt 31 in proper tension. The priming pump 25 draws liquid through a flexible pipe 22 from a chamber 16 in communication with the discharge 12 of the centrifugal main pump 10, and discharges it through a pipe 29. On completion of priming; a float valve 20, pivoted at 17, closes an opening 21 to interrupt the flow of liquid to the priming pump 25, and a spring-biased valve 15 is lifted, allowing liquid to flow to a discharge pipe 14. The valve 15 is connected through a flexible cable 45 to the platform 24, so that lifting of the valve 15 causes the priming pump 25 to tilt in a clockwise direction about the pivot 28 to remove the driving tension from the belt 31. Guards 34, 36 prevent displacement of belt 31 when the latter is slack. In a modification the flexible cable 45 is replaced by a pipe, and the valve stem 41 and guide 42 act as a piston and cylinder to force a liquid through the pipe to a further cylinder, where it acts on a piston connected to the platform 24 so as to tilt the priming pump 25. Specification 759,779 is referred to.
