Abstract:
A printhead cartridge for a multi-printhead ink jet printer includes an array (3) of ink jet nozzles and a heat sink (9) for controlling the temperature of the nozzles (3). The heat sink (9) is made up of a copper block (10) and thinner copper wing regions (12) extending from the block (10) parallel to the array (3) of nozzles. A passageway (11) for coolant water is formed in the block (10) and extends into the wings (12) as a thinner channel (13). The block (10) and the wing regions (12) are mounted in thermal contact with the array (3) of ink jet nozzles. The heat sink (9) has the advantage that it allows the cartridges in the printer to be stitched together to cover the full width of a substrate.
Abstract:
A system, method and article of manufacture is disclosed that provides an improved, higher efficiency, more accurate laser direct imaging on a photosensitive medium on a substrate using a ultraviolet, mode-locked laser having a low average power and a short pulse width. The ultraviolet, mode-locked laser is modulated in a scophony mode. The resulting in-scan edges having improved perpendicularity relative to the underlying substrate. The resulting cross scan beginning and end having improved perpendicularity relative to the underlying substrate. The improved perpendicularity resulting in improved accuracy over the prior art.
Abstract:
A device is described for exposing both sides of a light sensitive sheet such as a printed circuit board panel according to imaging data. The device comprises an optical system for scanning the sensitive sheet by one or more beams. The optical system scans both sides with the scan lines on one side mutually positioned with respect to the scan lines on the other side. According to one implementation, the optical system includes two optical scanning units driven by a single source, with a switch alternating the beam from the source to one then the other optical scanning unit.
Abstract:
A method and a device for converting a color defined in a first n-dimensiontal device dependent color space to a corresponding color defined in a second m-dimensional (m≧n; n≧p; m>p; p≧3) device dependent color space, wherein for each (m-p) th color dimension from the second device dependent color space there is each time defined a color value and said color coordinate set of the second device dependent color space is determined on the basis of said color value.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method and system that compensates for coverage-area spread distortions that occur during the reproduction of artwork having solid ink coverage. The method comprises characterizing the reproduction system on which the artwork will be printed, and modifying the artwork by causing a spread or choke to one or more selected graphic elements of the artwork by an amount determined according to the results of the characterization step. One way of causing a spread or choke is to mark an element for later modification of its perimeter, and another is to directly modify the element's perimeter. Reproducing the modified artwork on the reproduction system reduces the coverage gain effects.
Abstract:
An external drum laser imagesetter providing one or more imaging beams. The drum is rotataed in a fast scan direction and the one or more beams are modulated while the beams are moved in a slow scan direction. In one embodiment, the imaging beams are deflected in a slow scan direction to compensate for the spiral advance.

Abstract:
A method and system for exposing a light sensitive material using means for forming a row of spots of light on a light sensitive material located on a focal plane; means for modulating each of the spots according to imaging data so that at any point of time, the row of spots forms a data pattern according to the imaging data, means for generating relative motion between the row of spots of light and the light sensitive material on the focal plane, the direction of motion substantially parallel to the direction of the row of spots on the light sensitive material; and data synchronizing means for shifting the imaging data into the modulating means at a rate determined by the speed of relative motion to maintain the image of any data pattern substantially stationary on the light sensitive material.
Abstract:
A method and a device for generating printing data wherein a first colour separation defined in a first device dependent colour space is converted into a second colour separation defined in a second device dependent colour space of non-standard printing inks. The conversion is realised by means of a conversion matrix which is multiplied with the first colour separation.
