Abstract:
A composition of matter comprising an amine acylated with a hydrocarbyl group substituted carboxylic acylating agent containing an average of from 1.3 to 1.6 groups derived from α,β-unsaturated carboxylic compounds per M n of the hydrocarbyl group, wherein the hydrocarbyl group has M n determined by GPC ranging from 1500 to 3000, the amine comprises polyamine bottoms and said acylated amine has total base number (TBN) ranging from 17 to 35. A method for preparing the composition, lubricating oils containing the composition and, in another embodiment, lubricating oil compositions of this invention further comprising a metal overbased sulfonate detergent.
Abstract:
In a method operating an internal combustion engine, a nitrogen-containing detergent composition is introduced into a combustion chamber of the engine wherein the detergent composition can improve the performance of both a fuel composition and a lubricating oil of the engine. The detergent composition contains (A) a reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent and an amine, (B) a hydrocarbyl-substituted amine, (C) a Mannich reaction product, (D) a high molecular weight polyetheramine, or (E) a mixture thereof.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of reducing intake valve deposits in a direct injection engine, the method comprising lubricating the engine with a lubricating oil composition comprising a base oil mixture, the base oil mixture comprising (i) a Group III, a Group IV oil, or a mixture thereof, in combination with (ii) a synthetic ester oil, the weight ratio of (i) to (ii) being from about 0.2:1 to about 6:1.
