PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment compound which is safely and effectively administered to human beings or animals, maintains a homeostasis for various inflammatory irritations, and is pure and effective as an enantiomer wherein an activity in a single isomer is kept. SOLUTION: A medicament composition is composed of a substituted xanthine compound, shown by formula 1, treated for oral administration, parenteral administration, ex vivo administration or local administration to patients, and an adjuvant recipient in pharmaceutics. In formula 1, R 1 shows independently a separated enantiomer which has no other enantiomer excepting an alkyl(5-8C) substituted with a (ω-1) secondary alcohol, and R 2 and R 3 are independently an alkyl(1-12C) which may contain one or two non-adjacent oxygen atoms instead of a carbon atom as required. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a medicine for increasing neural stem cell numbers. SOLUTION: The method and the medicine are provided for increasing the neural stem cell numbers or neural neogenesis by using prolactin which is a polypeptide hormone. The method can be practiced in vivo to obtain more neural stem cells in situ, which can in turn produce more neurons or glial cells to compensate for lost or dysfunctional neural cells. The method can also be practiced in vitro to produce a large number of neural stem cells in culture. The cultured stem cells can be used, for example, for transplantation treatment of patients or animals suffering from neurodegenerative diseases or conditions. In addition, administration of a medicine containing prolactin can increase the number of neural stem cells. The neurodegenerative diseases especially include Alzheimer disease, disseminated sclerosis, Huntington disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Parkinson disease. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound and a pharmaceutical composition containing the compound each usable for maintaining a homeostasis in highly diversified cells subjected to various kinds of inflammatory or proliferative excitation. SOLUTION: This compound is the isolated R- or S-enantiomer (preferably R-enantiomer) of an ω-1 alcohol of a straight-chain 5-8C alkyl substituted on the 1-position of a 3,7-disubstituted xanthine. This compound is effective for the regulation of cellular response to an external or in situ excitation and to a specific type of administration of such an excitation. The other objective pharmaceutical composition containing the compound is also provided.
