Fixed-chamber apparatus for liquids.- In petrol and other liquid dispensing-apparatus, a delivery conduit 6 is fitted with a valve 8 and with a conduit 9 connecting it to the intake 3 of the pump 2. The valve structure, shown in Fig. 2, is such that the unseating of the delivery valve by means of the handle 8 brings the conduit 9 into communication with the discharge conduit 6 and with tho atmosphere so that operation of the pump in these circumstances firs t empties the conduit 9, and then admits air to the pump suction 3, so that it becomes impossible to draw liquid from the tank. The valve shown consists of two plates 81, 82 which swing transversely and cut off or open the flow through the conduit 6. Specification 264,044 is referred to.

Fixed - chamber apparatus.-In liquid-dispensing apparatus for use as an auxiliary in connection with petrol pumps, for delivering a measured quantity of a second liquid into a measured quantity of petrol as the latter flows to delivery, the second liquid is supplied from an apparatus comprising a reservoir which feeds by gravity a measuring chamber from which the liquid is discharged to the supply pipe, the measuring chamber having feed and discharge valves simultaneously operated by a hand-actuated cam, The reservoir comprises a transparent graduated cylinder 5 mounted between metal end plates 50, 51, and discharges into the measuring chamber 6 through a central aperture controlled by a spring-influenced valve 55, the stem 57 of which is actuated by a cam 83 on a cranked shaft 80. The measuring chamber 6, the capacity of which can be varied by means of a screwed plug 84, also consists of a transparent cylinder and discharges past a second valve 75 having a stem 77 operated by the cam 83.
