Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for implanting an inhibition sleeve inside the gastrointestinal tract in order to restrict food absorption in certain regions of the gastrointestinal tract and provide negative feedback which enables morbid obesity patients to improve their dietary habits.SOLUTION: The gastrointestinal tract implanted device in the present invention includes: a flexible sleeve 202 not supported at the distal end, opening at both ends, extending into the intestines, which restricts absorption of nutrients in the intestines, impregnated with chemicals, and made of thin and flexible material so as to be capable of contracting to a small volume in the inside of the intestines; and a self-expanding and contractible anchor 208 connected to the proximal end of the sleeve 202, anchoring the proximal end of the sleeve 202 to the inside of the gastrointestinal tract.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for limiting absorption of food products in specific parts of the digestive system. SOLUTION: A gastrointestinal implant device is anchored in the duodenum and extends beyond the ligament of Treitz. All food exiting the stomach is funneled through the device. The gastrointestinal device includes an anchor (2810) for attaching the device to the duodenum, and an unsupported flexible sleeve (202) for limiting absorption of nutrients in the duodenum. The anchor coupled to an upstream portion of the sleeve whose downstream end is unsupported, and locked to a duodenal wall and having a completely relaxed diameter of at least 40 millimeters, can include a stent and/or a wave anchor and is collapsible for catheter-based delivery and removal. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for the application of an obstruction sleeve within the gastrointestinal tract to limit absorption of food products in a specific parts of the gastrointestinal tract and to provide negative feedback to a patient who are morbidly obese to enable the patient to improve eating habits. SOLUTION: A gastrointestinal implant device includes a flexible sleeve which is open at both ends, and adapted to extend into the intestine to limit the absorption of nutrients in the intestine, and a stent formed from a network of struts, coupled to a proximal portion of the sleeve, and adapted to fasten the sleeve. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strainer element for an emergency core cooling system which is small enough not to occupy an unduly large area and can prevent excessive head loss from a debris load in the event of a cooling water accident in a nuclear reaction portion.SOLUTION: An embodiment comprises a strainer element for immersion in a reservoir of cooling water utilized by an emergency core cooling system, the strainer element having at least one major surface with a plurality of perforations therethrough. The cooling water is drawn into the emergency core cooling system through the strainer element. A side of the strainer element in contact with the cooling water has a contoured structure to prevent formation of a flat deposition that may trap particulate material small enough to pass through the perforations.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a delivery system and a delivery assembly delivering a device for limiting absorption of food products in specific parts of the digestive system.SOLUTION: The delivery system 2600 delivers the gastrointestinal implant device 200 gastrointestinally. The gastrointestinal implant device 200 is provided with: an anchor 208 which is anchored in the duodenum, extends beyond the ligament of Treitz, and anchors the device in the duodenum; and an unsupported flexible sleeve 202 for limiting absorption of nutrient in the duodenum. The delivery system 2600 an outer sheath 1202 for storing an upstream part of the gastrointestinal implant device 200, an inner sheath 1226 positioned inside the outer sheath and extending toward a downstream end of the delivery system 2600 beyond the outer sheath, a release mechanism for releasing the anchor 208 from the outer sheath 1202, and a sleeve release mechanism 1224 for releasing the downstream end of the sleeve 202.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device that employs an inhibitory sleeve within digestive canal so as to limit food absorption in specific portions of the digestive canal and give a morbidly obese patient a negative feedback for improving an eating habit.SOLUTION: A gastrointestinal implant device includes a flexible sleeve 202 composed of a thin and flexible material and unsupported at distal end so that it opens at both ends thereof, extends into the intestinum, limits absorption of nutrients within the intestinum, and can shrinkable in small capacity within the intestinum and a self-expandable and shrinkable anchor 208 connected to a proximal end of the sleeve 202. The anchor 208 has a needle-shaped projection 210 with a structure suitable for insertion into muscle issues and arranged in a direction suitable for the insertion into the muscle issues when the anchor 208 extending from its outer surface is extended and anchors the proximal end of the sleeve 202 within the digestive canal.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for delivering or placing gastrointestinal implant device into a mammal.SOLUTION: The gastrointestinal implant device can be used to limit absorption of food products in specific parts of the digestive system and can include a gastrointestinal sleeve having an anchor portion and a barrier or sleeve portion. The method includes the endoscopic delivery of the device.
