Abstract: A method of marring a fiber optic substrate by supporting a length of the substrate on a tapered surface of an elongate support and causing relative movement between at least one roller and the support lengthwise of the support with the roller pressing the substrate against the tapered surface and the roller rolling along the substrate. At least one of the roller and the support include an abrasive surface for marring the substrate during such relative movement therebetween.

Abstract: A method of marring a fiber optic substrate by directing a water jet abrasive slurry at the substrate while causing relative movement between an elongate support for the substrate and the water jet abrasive slurry to produce a marring pattern on the substrate. The pressure of the water jet abrasive slurry and/or the rate of relative movement between the elongate support and the water jet abrasive slurry may be varied to produce a variable marring pattern on the substrate.

Abstract: Illuminators include transparent light emitting members having a pattern of rounded shallow notches or grooves in one or more surfaces of the members for causing internally reflected light to be emitted from the members. The notches or grooves may be cut using a circular cutting tool. Abstract: A method for aligning an image capture device for a print device includes providing a capture stage on which an object to be imaged by the capture device is placed. The capture stage includes a plurality of reference markers spaced apart by a predetermined distance. The reference markers are imaged with the capture device. A distance between the reference markers is measured. A correction difference between the measured distance of the reference markers and the predetermined distance is computed. An angular correction value based on the correction difference is computed. The angular position of the capture device relative to the capture stage is adjusted based upon the angular correction value.
