Abstract:
An optical sensor system, in particular for detecting diffuse, low-intensity radiation, as in the case of the inspection of bank notes provided with luminescent marks, has in its preferred embodiment a conically enlarged optical fibre pen and processing optics. The narrow cross-section end of the optical fiber pen allows the radiation coming from the measured object to be detected in a large solid angle. The radiation leaves the optical fibre pen with an essentially reduced angle, adapted to the aperture angle of the following optics, because of the change in cross-section of the pen.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a multi-layer data carrier containing general printed image data which in addition is provided with a transparent layer incorporating additives which absorb laser light. The transparent layer is designed as a thin, non-self-contained layer in the composite card.
Abstract:
A security document consists of at least two layers of electrically conductive material in which a security element in the form of a transparent thread is embedded. At least some areas of one layer are transparent or semireflecting. The semireflecting layer cooperates with the distinguishing signs on the thread so that the distinguishing signs are substantially concealed in incident light but visually recognizable when back-lit.
Abstract:
A thickness measurement device for foil material having a preliminary sensing element in front of the actual measurement gap, which reacts when there is an increase in the thickness of the transported material and if necessary swings the measurement system away from the transport plane. This prevents blockages in the transport system and damage and misadjustments in the measurement system. A triggering mechanism working in conjunction with the preliminary sensing element can be so designed that the swinging movement does not take place until a specific pre-set force is reached. After the operating problem has been put right, the measurement system is automatically returned to its original position.
Abstract:
Data medium comprising a plurality of layers as well as a medium element (2) of an integrated circuit block (3). A process for producing such a data medium is also disclosed. The medium element (2) is comprised of a flexible substrate (10) on which are formed contact surfaces connected to the integrated circuit block (3) by conductor tracks. When assembling the medium element (2) in the data medium, the medium element is deformed so that the integrated circuit block (3), protected by a card coating, is arranged in the middle of the card in the finished data medium, the contact surfaces being terminated flush with the top surface of the card.
Abstract:
A system for checking the validity of a data carrier determines the physical characteristic of the data carrier from an irreversibly adjustable electrical state of a separate circuit on the integrated switching circuit and uses the electrical characteristic of the circuit to formulate a characteristic value for the data carrier.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a protected document (1) such as a bank note, identity card or the like, with a security element (2) in the form of a band or strip which is subdivided into adjacent subsections in which diffraction structures are incorporated. The diffraction structures represent very reduced data. Data in individual sections can be read from different angles of view in such a way that when the angle of view is changed the optical data in various sections can be read in sequence, which creates the effect of movement along the length of security element (2).
Abstract:
In a process for manufacturing plastic smart cards and smart card blanks having wall regions of substantially reduced thickness, the plastics material is first injected into an initial mould cavity which has no wall regions of reduced thickness. The distance between certain wall regions of the initial mould cavity is reduced to the required dimension, the plastics material being displaced into adjacent regions of the mould cavity.
Abstract:
Security element in the form of a thread (1) or a ribbon for insertion into security documents such as banknotes, cheques, securities, credit and identity cards or the like, comprising characters, patterns, etc., which can be rendered visible by transparency and/or read by a machine. Said element consists of a translucent plastic film (2) covered by an opaque coating (3) and having recesses (4) shaped like the characters or patterns to be applied. Said element also comprises colouring and/or luminescent substances, in the regions coinciding with the recesses, which make it possible under suitable lighting conditions to distinguish the characters and/or patterns from the security document and from the opaque coating by means of contrasting colours.
Abstract:
In order to verify the authenticity of a data medium with integrated circuit, memory and logic devices, individual randomly chosen characteristics of each circuit are determined from which characteristic data for the circuit are derived. Preferably, the different programming times of the storage cells in an E2-PROM memory are calculated. These times can be determined by various processes and processed as characteristic data. Other individual characteristics are, for example, characteristic attributes in the input characteristic curve.
