Abstract:
Large, dense chromic oxide refractory blocks containing from about 80 % to about 98 % chromic oxide are made by firing a green block comprising, in addition to the chromic oxide, titania and a colloidal silica having a surface area of at least about 90 m2/g. Blocks having porosities as low as 0 % are made in either an oxidizing or a reducing atmosphere. The blocks are crack-free and have a good resistance to corrosion by molten glass.
Abstract:
A REFRACTORY WALL IS CONSTRUCTED FROM A PLURALITY OF PLASTIC BLOCKS LAID INTO MULTIPLE COURSES. MOST OF THE BLOCKS ARE FORMED ENTIRELY FROM A PLASTIC REFRACTORY MATERIAL, WHILE THE REMAINING BLOCKS ARE FORMED FROM THE SAME PLASTIC MATERIAL BUT HAVE NON-DEFORMABLE ANCHOR CORES EMBEDDED IN THEM. EACH ANCHOR CORE IS CREATED FROM A REFRACTORY MATERIAL WHICH DOES NOT IMPAIR THE REFRACTORINESS OF THE PLASTIC REFRACTORY MATERIAL.
Abstract:
A ceramic fiber module (A) comprising a shell (10) and interior layers (11, 12, 13, 14) of ceramic fiber blankets is attached to the wall (15) of a furnace so that the ceramic fibers in the layers are in planes parallel to the wall. The layers are joined together and to the shell by an anchor pin (17) and/or refractory cement. The module (A) is anchored to the furnace wall by joining the anchor pin (17) to the base (18) which forms the sixth side of the shell (10). The base (18) is inserted into the retaining bracket (19) which is mounted on the furnace wall. The parallel layering of the ceramic fiber blankets permits the use of highly refractory blankets nearthe hot face and insulating blankets near the furnace wall.
Abstract:
An elbow in a pneumatic transport system is lined on the outside to combat wear from abrasive substances conveyed by the system. The lining comprises a plurality of liner segments extended only across the backside of the elbow''s exterior surface and set end to end along the elbow in the directon of flow through it. The liner segments are attached to the elbow by an adhesive and by steel bands. The opposing end faces of adjacent liner segments are generally parallel and a layer of adhesive exists between them. The liner segments are preformed from a durable material such as aluminum oxide.
Abstract:
A GUNNING REFRACTORY OF THE HYDRAULIC SETTING AGENT TYPE HAVING LOW REBOUND LOSS AND OF A COMPOSITION OF 60% TO 90% BY WEIGHT OF ACID AND/OR NEUTRAL REGRACTORY AGGREGATE FILLER, FROM 10% TO 40% CALCIUM ALUMINATE CEMENT, FROM 0.1% TO 5% PLASTER OF PARIS, AND FROM 0.01% TO 5% SHORT FIBER ASBESTOS.
