PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method to be utilized for transmitting data across an interface between a sender and a receiver.SOLUTION: An apparatus and method are utilized for transmitting data across an interface between a sender and a receiver. The sender and receiver can be provided with a shared key, a receiver key and a sender key. A payload message can be combined with the keys to generate a unique message for transmission across the interface. The payload message can be authenticated utilizing the same input and the same algorithm on the receiving end of the transmission. The resulting confirmatory payload message can be utilized with the authenticating payload message to authenticate the payload message.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cordless telephone system operable to transmit and receive both voice data and SMS data. SOLUTION: A cordless telephone system includes a base station operable to connect to an internet protocol (IP) network and at least one handset running a short messaging service (SMS) application. The at least one handset is operable to transmit and receive both voice data and SMS data to and from the base station. The voice data are transmitted from the base station via a multimedia terminal adapter (MTA) to the IP network and the SMS data are transmitted from the base station via a modem to the IP network. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for presenting customized caller options via a communication device (104). SOLUTION: The method includes receiving (404) an incoming call from a calling party at the second communication device. The method further includes comparing (406) caller identification (ID) information associated with the incoming call to a pre-defined stored list of caller ID information. Further, the method includes presenting (408) the calling party with customized caller options. The customized caller options are presented in accordance with a result of the comparison between the incoming call caller ID information and the pre-defined stored list of caller ID information. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for providing scheduled live off disk recording for DVR devices. SOLUTION: Characteristics describing selected contents scheduled to be broadcast on a first channel are programmed into a DVR device 204 for recording onto a temporary buffer 208. Once the selected contents are received from a communications network 202, the DVR device 204 navigates to a scheduled LOD channel planning to receive the selected contents. The DVR device 204 stores the selected contents into the temporary buffer 208. In the event the temporary buffer 208 becomes full, the DVR device 204 receives a full indication, and begins to overwrite the contents of the temporary buffer 208 starting from the beginning so that there is always a full buffer of data. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective and cost-oriented device for controlling a SOA gain used in an uplink direction for PON applications. SOLUTION: An amplifier of an optical amplifier has an input port and an output port, and is disposed along a main signal line of the optical amplifier. A dummy laser generating circuit has an output connected to the main signal line and inputs a dummy signal into the amplifier. A first optical detector detects an output level of the dummy signal inputted into the amplifier and outputs a first output level signal. A second optical detector detects an amplified output level of the dummy signal outputted by the amplifier and outputs a second output level signal. A storage device stores calibration data related to gain characteristics of the amplifier. A gain control circuit receives input from the first optical detector and the second optical detector, and has an output connected to the amplifier. The gain control circuit controls the gain of the amplifier based on the first output level signal, the second output level signal, and the calibration data. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
