Abstract:
New pentamidine analogue compounds and compositions containing the new analogues are disclosed. Methods for the treatment of, and prophylaxis against, Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, and methods for treating leishmaniasis, giardiasis, and malaria using the new analogues are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An acyclic alkane soluble anionic polymerization initiator includes a mixtur e of from about 90 to about 10 parts by weight of a lithio amine having the gener al formula A1Li and from about 10 to about 90 parts by weight of at least one other lithio amine having the general formula A2Li. A1 and A2 are selected from the dialkyl, alkyl, cycloalkyl and dicycloalkyl amine radicals and cyclic amine radicals. There is also provided a method of forming a mixture of anionic polymerization initiators, a functionalized polymer and a method of forming a functionalized polymer.

Abstract:
A process for preparing a rubber comprising polymeric composition, and the resulting compositions, and certain isoprene comprising interpolymers.
Abstract:
A polymeric nanoparticle composition is provided. The nanoparticle may be of a core/shell configuration with an interphase region connecting the core and the shell. The mean average diameter of the polymer nanoparticles may be less than about 250 nm. The size, composition, and/or configuration of the interphase region may be varied to achieve desired physical and/or chemical properties of the resulting polymeric nanoparticles, and of the compositions into which the nanoparticles are compounded.
Abstract:
A polymer composition of low gas permeability. The composition includes an exfoliated organically-modified clay, butyl rubber, and a polymeric exfoliant. A method for producing the butyl composition by dry mixing the butyl rubber with the exfoliated clay is also provided.
Abstract:
A nano-particle composition including a poly (alkenylbenzene) core and a poly (conjugated diene) or a poly(alkylene) surface layer is provided. The nano-particles have a mean average diameter less than about 100nm. The nano-particles can be modified via, for example, hydrogenation or functionalization. The nano-particles can advantageously be incorporated into rubbers, elastomers, and thermoplastics.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for treating Cryptococcus neoformans, Cryptosporidium parvum, and Candida albicans in a subject in need of such treatment. The methods comprise administering to the subject a compound of Formula (I), wherein X is located in the para or meta positions and is loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, halogen, or (a), wherein each R2 is independently selected from the group consisting of H, loweralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or alkylaryl or two R2 groups together represent C2-C10 alkylene, or two R2 groups together represent (b), wherein m is from 1-3 and R4 is H, (c) or -CONHR5NR6R7, wherein R5 is loweralkyl, R6 and R7 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H and lower alkyl; each R8 is independently selected from the group consisting of H, loweralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or alkylaryl, or two R8 groups together represent C2-C10 alkylene; R9 is H, hydroxy, loweralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or alkylaryl; R3 is H, hydroxy, loweralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or alkylaryl; R1 is H, loweralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, or halogen; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
Abstract:
Terminally functionalized polymers that are living or pseudo-living polymers reacted with certain allyl glycidyl ethers, or certain allylhalosilanes or combinations thereof, and a process for preparing the terminally functionalized polymers. Rubber- modified polymeric compositions comprising the terminally functionalized polymers.
