Provided is a computer system configured so that security compliance problems can be avoided and an access control model which can be uniquely customized can be implemented by extending the storage capacity to an external storage service by means of integrated management of an existing NAS(s) and the external storage service, and controlling the optimum data placement according to the confidentiality and importance level of data. In a computer system according to this invention, a local storage system includes an extended server for integrating a NAS(s) existing in the local storage system with an external storage service and thereby providing a client with a storage area as a single virtual NAS.

To provide a retrieval space map in which the ratio of unnecessary files included in the retrieval result can be decreased. One or more retrieval object spaces (retrieval objects) in which a file suitable for a retrieval purpose exists at high possibility are predefined according to the retrieval purpose under a condition containing a number of retrieval objects, and the space in which a necessary file exists at high possibility can be searched by designating the retrieval object to be suited for the retrieval purpose at the time of retrieval.

There is provided a technique for removing only a seal impression while keeping character string information when applying OCR to a business document stored in grayscale, even if the character string and the seal impression overlap with each other. The character string that overlaps with the seal impression is extrapolated by matching a character string present near the seal impression against a database. More specifically, first, a seal impression region in a business document inputted in grayscale is removed. Next, character information that is present near the removed seal impression region and of which a portion of the characters is unclear due to the seal impression region is extracted as seal impression related information. Then, an attribute of the extracted seal impression related information is identified, a customer database storing character string candidates containing customer information is referred to, and based on the seal impression related information classified by attribute, the character string that overlaps with the seal impression region and that is thus unclear is extrapolated.

To create and manage vouchers by fully checking the contents of the vouchers so that the vouchers will not contain any flaws in description. Information described in a voucher is analyzed through the analysis of the logical structure of the voucher. It is checked, based on RCM (risk control matrix) prepared for internal control purposes, if an item described in the voucher satisfies a predetermined relationship and also if items described in vouchers, which are generated through a series of operations, satisfy a predetermined relationship. Then, a warning is displayed and entry of modification is accepted.

This invention provides a method and apparatus for generating and processing on a screen a document format including input/output fields for describing a character string or a numeric data string by a method or in a form which enables an operator to easily make correction on a screen or in a manner which makes it easy to input or output the data to and from the input/output field. The generation of a document format on the screen in a manner of easy correction is reading the information describing the format from a recording medium where the format of the document is described, displaying the read data on the screen in the same or similar format described in the recording medium, correcting and updating the format displayed on the screen in response to key operation by the operator, generating an input/output area by recognizing the format, displaying it by superposing it on the format displayed on the screen and correcting and updating the input/output area in response to the key operation by the operator. The generation of a document format in the form which makes the input and output operation easy on the screen is reading the information describing the format from the recording medium in which the format of the document is described, determining a character size per one displayed character from the read data, disposing cells on the basis of the character size thus determined, arranging outside-cell information such as character or numeric data on the basis of the cells thus arranged, compressing the cells and the outside-cell data lest they jut out from the display screen and determining the processing sequence of each item of the format displayed on the display screen.

The frequency of appearance of a keyword is calculated using a first database in which information about a base sequence and an amino acid sequence are stored, and a second database in which text data is stored. A keyword frequency calculation method includes a first text data extraction step for extracting first text data from said first database based on a base sequence or an amino acid sequence inputted by a user; an identifier extraction step for extracting an identifier identifying text data in said first text data from said first text data; a second text data extraction step for extracting second text data from said second database based on said identifier; and an appearance frequency calculation step for sequentially reading keywords from a keyword table containing keywords related to said first database, and for calculating the frequency of appearance of each of said keywords in said second text data.

This invention provides semiconductor nanoparticles having fluorescence properties and comprising a modifying group represented by the following general formula bound to their surfaces, a method for producing the same, and a fluorescence reagent comprising semiconductor nanoparticles:nullOYwherein Y is selected from a hydrogen atom, a metal atom, a semimetal atom, an organic group, or an organic group that is intermediated by a metal atom or a semimetal atom. In this method, the surfaces of the semiconductor nanoparticles were modified with a hydroxyl group or the like for stabilization. This realizes the production of semiconductor nanoparticles having fluorescence properties that significantly emit only the band gap fluorescence, the production of which at the industrial level was previously very difficult due to the necessity of many processes and from the viewpoint of technology and safety.

A spotting pin 10 capable of spotting equal amounts of a solution in a sequential manner comprises a first member 11 having a solution holding portion 13 formed at the tip thereof for holding a predetermined amount of solution, and a second member 12 having a solution supply portion 14 for holding the solution by a capillary action, the second member adapted to slide along the first member. As the solution supply portion 14 is brought into contact with the solution holding portion 13, the solution enters the solution holding portion 13 from the solution supply portion 14 by a capillary action. As the solution supply portion 14 and the solution holding portion 13 are separated from each other, a predetermined amount of the solution can be carried in the solution holding portion 13. Then, as the solution holding portion 13 is brought into contact with a water-absorbing support 21, a spot 22 of a predetermined amount of the solution can be formed thereon.

Conventionally, reaction measurement for a reaction using semiconductor nanoparticles has been conducted by measuring absorbance and fluorescence intensity in a solution, and thus only a relative evaluation has been available, and its operation is complicated. The present invention provides an industrial evaluation method that is simply performed by conducting the measurement after a semiconductor nanoparticle solution is dried. Further, the measurement in a dry condition allows semiconductor nanoparticles to be applied to biopolymer microarrays or the like.

A method and apparatus generates data concerning a partition of land such as farmland based on an observation image of the surface of the earth photographed by a high-altitude flying vehicle such as a satellite or airplane at high speed while reducing the burden on the user. The method comprises the steps of extracting edges in the observation image; extracting a rectangle region on the image by determining and connecting points of intersection of a plurality of straight lines extending radially from a point on the image and the edges; and adjusting the extracted rectangle region by refining and correcting it.
