    Abstract: 224,301. Dehn, F. B., (Ironsides Co.). Aug. 10, 1923. Lubricant conveyed by fluid. - Lubricant is drawn from a container 1, Fig. 1, through a pipe 2 into the intake manifold 4 of an internal - combustion engine by the suction existing in the manifold, a valve being interposed between the container and the pipe to regulate the supply automatically in accordance with the speed of the engine. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a tapered valve 9 is secured to a diaphragm 6 mounted on an annular flange 7 in a valve casing 3 and held in place by a screwed plug 8. The valve 9 co-operates with a seat formed in a screwed stem 10 held in adjusted position by a spring 12. Oil is drawn by the suction in the manifold from the container 1 through an inlet 13, past the valve 9, through an orifice 14 in the stem 10 and through an exit 15 into the pipe 2. The valve is normally open, but as the suction increases, due to slowing of the engine, the diaphragm 6 and valve 9 are pulled toward the valve seat, thus reducing the supply of oil. In the form shown in Fig. 3, a tapered valve 17 is normally held against a seat 18 by an adjustable spring 16. The suction draws the valve away from its seat, and increasing suction causes the opposite face of the valve to approach a seat 21, thus diminishing the supply of oil. Up to 50 per cent of glycerine or other anti-freeze agent may be added.
