Abstract:
Provided are methods of improving the wear resistance and aesthetic properties of dental articles, as well as dental articles having an abrasion resistant ceramic/polymer hybrid coating thereon. The method for coating a dental article (20) comprises: providing a body comprising a mental substrate (30); priming at least a portion of a surface of the body; depositing a ceramic material on at least a portion of a surface of the body, wherein said depositing forms a ceramic layer (34) bonded directly to the surface: and depositing at least one hardenable composition comprising a polymerizable component on at least a portion of the ceramic layer, wherein depositing at least one hardenable composition forms a polymeric layer (36).
Abstract:
Dental compositions and biphenyl di(meth)acrylate monomers are described. The dental compositions comprise at least one biphenyl di(meth)acrylate monomer comprising two aromatic rings connected with a C-C bond wherein the rings each comprise a substituent comprising a urethane moiety and a (meth)acrylate end group.
Abstract:
Curable dental compositions, dental articles, and methods of making or using such compositions or articles are described. In one embodiment, the curable dental restoration composition comprises a resin system comprising a free-radically polymerizable semi-crystalline resin having a molecular weight no greater than 2000 g/mole and at least 50 wt-% of nanocluster filler.
Abstract:
The present invention features a hardenable dental composition that contains: (1) at least one cyclic allylic compound having at least one sulfur atom in the ring, and (2) at least one at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound, such as a substituted (meth)acryloyl compound. The compositions also typically comprise an initiator system, preferably a photoinitator system containing at least 0.08 wt-% of one or more photosensitizers.

Abstract:
Dental compositions and methods of treating an oral surface are described. The dental compositions comprise at least one biphenyl di(meth)acrylate monomer.
Abstract:
A solid dental crown and methods of using the solid dental crown are disclosed. The solid dental crown includes, a self-supporting solid hardenable preformed dental crown having an external crown shape defined by an external crown surface. The external crown surface defines a crown volume that is substantially filled with a hardenable composition. The hardenable composition has sufficient malleability so that the solid preformed dental crown can be pressed onto a prepared tooth surface to form a recess in the solid preformed dental crown defined by a recess surface that is complimentary to the prepared tooth surface.
Abstract:
Methods of making an impression of dental tissue and dental articles (e.g. suitable for dental impression) are described. In one embodiment, the method comprises providing a hardenable composition, comprising a resin system, a filler system, and an initiator system wherein the hardenable composition is a hardenable self-supporting material having sufficient malleablility to be formed into a shape. The method further comprises placing said hardenable composition in contact with dental tissue such that an impression of at least a portion of the dental tissue is formed in the hardenable composition. The method further comprises curing the hardenable composition comprising the impression.
Abstract:
Provided are methods of improving the wear resistance and aesthetic properties of dental articles though use of ceramics and microparticles, as well as dental articles having an abrasion resistant microparticle and ceramic coating thereon. Abrasion resistant hybrid coated dental articles of the present disclosure may be crimped and/or otherwise manipulated without deleteriously affecting the aesthetics or performance of the coating. The coating is desirably sufficiently thin on the outer surface so as to be pliable enough to undergo manipulation without damage or failure. Preferably, the coating is also sufficiently thick in order to withstand typical mastication and oral preventive care forces throughout the life of the article. The abrasion resistant hybrid coating includes a ceramic material, a hardenable dental composition, and a plurality of spherical microparticles.
