Abstract:
Systems and methods for installation and operation of a groundwater monitoring system in a borehole of any angle using a coaxial gas displacement pump with a unique O-ring assembly that serves as a two-position valve for groundwater purging and sampling and also as a housing and sealing mechanism for isolating an optical pressure sensor. The optical sensor measures in-situ hydraulic pressure directly subjacent and adjacent to the surrounding rock fractures and sediment pores without hydraulic interferences from potentiometric equilibration lag time from recovery fluid pressure inside a borehole, in a zone above the optical sensor, or on the inside of a riser pipe that rises to the ground surface.
Abstract:
A DECORATIVE LAYER AND A METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, IN WHICH A MOTAR COMPOSITION COMPRISING IN ADMIXTURE HYDRAULIC CEMENT, AGGREGATE, SYNTHETIC RESIN EMULSION AND WATER IS DIRECTLY APPLIED ONTO THE SURFACE OF A MINERAL, WOOD OR METAL SUBSTRATUM, AND THEN A SURFACE LAYER CONSISTING OF SYNTHETIC RESIN AND ORGANIC SOLVENT THEREFOR IS FORMED ON THE SURFACE OF MOTAR LAYER THUS APPLIED, EITHER ONE OR BOTH OF SAID SURFACE LAYER AND SAID MOTAR COMPOSITION CONTAINING INORGANIC PIGMENT.
Abstract:
A cylindrical supporting structure is connected integrally with a prestressed concrete pressure vessel for a nuclear reactor for supporting the pressure vessel thereon. The supporting structure is formed with a plurality of circumferential slits or separating surfaces to be divided into a plurality of concentric cylindrical elements so as to minimize the horizontal shearing stress produced mainly due to the thermal expansion of the vessel. Further, a plurality of radial slits or separating surfaces may be provided in the concentric cylindrical elements so as to minimize the circumferential tensile stress appearing in the cylindrical elements.
Abstract:
A drilling machine for forming a vertical hole having an oblong and somewhat rectangular horizontal cross section in the earth, comprising a supporting frame housing a driving means which drives a horizontally arranged auger which is supported by the supporting means and comprises two spiral screw threads coaxially arranged and completely symmetrically formed with respect to each other. The supporting means supports a soil-sucking pipe means at its bisected branches arranged over both extremities of the auger and is provided with bits under the branches, respectively.
Abstract:
A long corrugated pipe bus conductor to be laid vertically in a high-storied building has the conductors of branching lines bonded thereto at predetermined intervals. The interval may be so selected as to correspond to the height of one story of the building. Each of the branching lines leads to an electrical equipment such as a switchboard on each story.
Abstract:
STRUCTURES OR STRUCTURAL SHAPE FRAME MEMBERS, SUCH AS BEAMS, COLUMNS, AND PILLARS HAVING SPACED FLANGES JOINED BY CONNECTING WEBS FOR CONSTRUCTION USE, ARE ENCLOSED BY MOLDED PLATES MADE OF A FIRE-PROOF MATERIAL, SUCH AS ASBESTOS, CEMENT, VERMICULITE, PERLITE, GYPSUM, ROCK WOOL OR THE LIKE, FORMED INTO THE REQUIRED SHAPE. THE MOLDED PLATES ARE SECURED TO THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS BY APPLYING A FIRE-PROOF ADHESIVE AGENT TO THE JOINT PORTIONS OF THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS AND MOLDED PLATES AND ALSO BETWEEN THE MOLDED PLATES THEMSELVES SO THAT THE JOINT PORTIONS CAN BE COMBINED TOGETHER IN A BODY WHILE USING CLAMPS OR NAILS FOR TEMPORAY SUPPORT THEREBY FORMING FIRE-PROOF LAYERS ABOUT THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS. FOR EXAMPLE, A FIRE-PROOF MATERIAL SUCH AS ASBESTOS OR THE LIKE IS RENDERED SUFFICIENTLY FIBER-OPEN AND A SUITABLE AMOUNT OF CEMENT, AS A BINDING AGENT, IS INCORPORATED IN THE ASBESTOS FIBERS THUS OPENED AND THE MIXTURE IS FED INTO A MOLD UNDER PRESSURE FOR CONSOLIDATION INTO THE REQUIRED SIZE AND SHAPE OF THE MOLDED PLATES USED (BLOCKS AND PLATES) AS FIRE-PROOF COVERING MEMBERS. AN ADHESIVE AGENT MADE OF A MIXTURE OF SODIUM SILICATE 65% BY WEIGHT, AND ASBESTOS FIBERS CHAMOTTE AND FIRE-PROOF CEMENT 35% BY WEIGHT IS APPLIED TO THE JOINT PORTIONS OF THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS AND MOLDED MEMBERS AND ALSO BETWEEN ADJACENT MOLDED MEMBERS OS THAT THE JOINT PORTIONS CAN COMBINED AND FIXED TOGETHER WHILE USING CLAMPS AND NAILS TO FORM TEMPORAY SUPPORT AS THE ADHESIVE SETS TO FORM FIRE-PROOF LAYERS OF THE REQUIRED THICKNESS. THUS IT IS POSSIBLE TO COVER THE OUTSIDE OF A STRUCTURAL MEMBER INCLUDING ITS CORNERS TO AN EXACT SIZE BY MERELY SECURING THE FIRE-PROOF MOLDED MEMBERS TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE STRUCTURAL MEMBER BY MEANS OF THE ADHESIVE AGENT, THEREBY OBTAINING DURABLE AND STRONG BEAMS AND PILLARS COMPLETELY COVERED BY SAID MOLDED FIRE-PROOF COVERING MEMBERS.
Abstract:
A process for fabricating a columnar assembly of spaced reinforcing bars comprising the steps of suspending a first plurality of reinforcing bars in parallel, spaced relationship; positioning a first constraining hoop in a plane generally perpendicular to said first plurality of reinforcing bars and in contact therewith; attaching said first plurality of reinforcing bars to said first constraining hoop; positioning a second plurality of reinforcing bars in spaced relationship to each other, parallel to said first plurality of reinforcing bars, and in contact with said first constraining hoop; and attaching said second plurality of reinforcing bars to said first constraining hoop. A variety of additional reinforcing bars and constraining hoops may be added in various ways to the basic unit.
Abstract:
A construction method of rigid structural joints between precast concrete columns and beams by utilizing two sets of jointing system in combination. In vertical direction columns are jointed by placing steel sleeves within joint panel zone wherein protruding main bars from upper and lower columns are inserted and grouted by non-shrink mortar giving structural continuity. In horizontal direction beams are jointed by formation of U-shaped grooves at beam ends wherein main reinforcing bars are enclosed and lap-jointed to preassembled main bars placed inside of aforesaid grooves by casting concrete within the grooves.
