Abstract:
A travel permissions communication interface system is provided, having a scanner, a identifying characteristic reader, a computer, a comparator, a connection device, and a display, all of which being managed by a computer operably connected therebetween. The scanner (a) reads a portable identification carrier onto which is encoded identifying characteristic data of at least one person; (b) sends such identification data to the computer for verification of authenticity of the carrier and (c) extracts a identifying characteristic of a certain identifying characteristic parameter from the identifying characteristic data encoded on the carrier. The identifying characteristic reader reads a same identifying characteristic parameter of the person purported to be identified by the carrier. The comparator compares the encoded identifying characteristic with the extracted identifying characteristic to authenticate the person associated with the carrier. The connection means, if the carrier and at least one person are authenticated, enables the computer to connect to a data storage device of travel permissions associated with that person or type of person. The display displays the travel permissions to an authority to aid the authority in determining a disposition with regard to the person. A method of using a travel permissions communication interface system is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A data storage device is provided in which encoded binary machine-readable, digital hierarchical data may be stored. The data is represented by X-nary characters in a matrix. Two different hierarchical 2-D barcodes may be superimposed to increase the data storage capacity. The device is integrated in a system having a scanner, a identifying characteristic reader, a computer, a comparator, a connection device, and a display, all of which being managed by a computer operably connected therebetween. The display displays the user permissions to an authority to aid the authority in determining a disposition with regard to the person. A method of using a user permissions communication interface system is also disclosed.

Intaglio printing press systems for recto-verso intaglio printing of sheets, in particular for the production of banknotes and the like securities, wherein first and second intaglio printing presses (1a, 1b) are operatively-coupled to one another by a sheet processing and transporting system (9) comprising an automated guided vehicle system for automatically transporting sheets from a sheet delivery station (8.1) of the first intaglio printing press (1a) where recto printing is performed to a sheet feeding station (1.2) of the second intaglio printing press (1b) where verso printing is performed.
Abstract:
There is described a device (10) and method for magnetically transferring indicia to a coating composition (P), such as an ink or varnish, applied to at least a part of the surface of a substrate (S), the coating composition (P) comprising at least one type of magnetic or magnetizable particles. The device (10) comprises a body (20) subjected to a magnetic field generated by appropriate electromagnetic means, which body (20) carries determined indicia in the form of engravings (21 a, 21 b, 21 c; 211, 212) on a surface of the body (20), which engravings (21 a, 21 b, 21 c; 211, 212) influence orientation of field lines of the magnetic field. The body (20) comprises at least one layer (21 ) of material of high magnetic permeability in which the engravings (21 a, 21 b, 21 c; 211, 212) are formed. In unengraved regions of the layer (21 ) of material of high magnetic permeability, the field lines of the magnetic field extend substantially parallel to the surface of the body (20) inside said layer (21 ) of material of high magnetic permeability.
Abstract:
There is described a method for controlling the quality of printed documents (1 ), such as banknotes and other similar documents, in an environment where only part of the surface of the printed documents is available for inspection, the method comprising the steps of (i) storing a reference image (6); (ii) acquiring a sample image (5) of a sample printed document to be controlled, which sample image covers only a limited portion of the sample printed document; (iii) selecting a search pattern (7) within the acquired sample image; (iv) searching the reference image (6) for a match with the selected search pattern (7), (v) determining control parameters linked to the position of the search pattern (7) within said sample image (5) and within said reference image (6), (vi) comparing the control parameters linked to the position of the search pattern (7) within the sample image (5) with the control parameters linked to the position of the search pattern (7) within the reference image (6); and (vii) based on the results of the comparison of the control parameters, accepting or rejecting the sample printed document.
Abstract:
There is described an apparatus (1) for coating a cylinder (C), in particular a wiping cylinder of an intaglio printing press, with a plastic composition comprising inter alia a blade mechanism (4) comprising a single substantially planar blade (40) with a straight edge (40a) extending along the full length of the cylinder to be coated and which is mounted rotatably about an axis parallel to the axis of rotation of the cylinder to be coated. The blade comprises, at its terminal end proximate to the cylinder, an inclined end portion (4a) having an inverted-V shape rising from the upper side of the blade, the top edge of the inclined end portion forming the straight edge of the blade. The blade is adapted to be rotated so that the straight edge of the blade undergoes an upward movement substantially tangential to the periphery of the cylinder in order to discontinue the application of the plastic composition onto the surface of the cylinder.
Abstract:
The letterpress printing machine comprises an impression cylinder (8), at least one inking device (11, 12, 13) with an inking train comprising inking rollers (25, 26, 28) and at least one letterpress forme cylinder (14, 15, 16) inked by said at least one inking device (11, 12, 13). Said at least one letterpress forme cylinder (14, 15, 16) is driven by first drive means (30), whereas said at least one inking device (11, 12, 13) is driven by second drive means (31, 32, 33), said second drive means (31, 32, 33) being mechanically independent from said first drive means (30). A control unit is coupled to the second drive means (31, 32, 33) to adjust a circumferential speed of the inking rollers (25, 26, 28) with respect to a circumferential speed of the letterpress forme cylinder (14, 15, 16) so as to adjust deposition of ink by the inking device (11, 12, 13) on the letterpress forme cylinder (14, 15, 16). At least one of letterpress forme (14, 15, 16) cylinder is preferably a numbering cylinder for numbering printed sheets or webs.
