The latter portions have ends 8, 9 of relatively greater thickness and have machined notches 10 which together present a pocket arranged to receive the end of a link of a chain which will bridge the gap 7. Alternatively, the shank portions 1, 2 may be formed of plate all of one thickness, the ends remote from the eye 6 being bent back on themselves to form two hooks constituting the pocket.

[Class 24] An anchor shackle comprises a plug 1 the body portion 2 of which is a solid of revolution to which is attached a ring 3 attachable to an end link of a chain, a split socket 4 mating with the body of the plug and formed on its exterior with the male element 5 of a bayonet joint the female element 7 of which is formed on the interior of a hollow holder 6 having two legs 8 joined by a shackle pin 9, and a withdrawable locking pin 10 passing transversely through the holder 6 and engaging a transverse notch in the end of the split socket 4. The shackle can be rotated around its axis since the plug body 2 is a solid of revolution.
