The invention is directed to a pigment preparation comprising aluminium effect pigments, a solvent and at least one additive, wherein said aluminium effect pigments have a d 98 value of the volume averaged particle size distribution curve of less than (15) μm, said at least one additive is a phosphorous containing additive, and said solvent has a viscosity equal to or more than 1.8 mPa's at 25 °C. The invention is further directed to an ink jet printing ink as well the use thereof.

The invention relates to platelet-shaped, copper-containing, metallic effect pigments which have a copper content of 60 to 100% by weight, based on the total metal content, the metallic pigments having a thickness distribution, as determined via thickness counting by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and represented as the cumulative undersize distribution, a) an h50 value of 10 to 50 nm, b) an h90 value of 20 to 70 nm, the platelet-shaped, copper-containing, metallic effect pigments having been produced by milling a copper-containing atomized metal powder with lubricant. The invention further relates to a process for preparing these pigments and to their use, to a printing ink comprising the pigments of the invention, and to a coated article comprising these pigments.

Die Erfindung betrifft plättchenförmige kupferhaltige Metalleffektpigmente, welche einen Kupfergehalt von 60 bis 100 Gew.-%, bezogen auf den gesamten Metallgehalt, aufweisen, wobei die Metallpigmente eine über Dickenauszählung mit Rasterelektronenmikroskopie (REM) ermittelte Dickenverteilung in der Darstellung als Summendurchgangsverteilung, a) einen h50-Wert von 10 bis 50 nm, b) einen h90-Wert von 20 bis 70 nm aufweisen, wobei die plättchenförmigen kupferhaltigen Metalleffektpigmente durch Vermahlung eines kupferhaltigen Metallgrießes mit Schmiermittel hergestellt sind. Die Erfindung betrifft ferner ein Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser Pigmente als auch deren Verwendung und eine die erfindungsgemäßen Pigmente enthaltenden Druckfarbe und einen diese Pigmente enthaltenden, beschichteten Gegenstand.

The present invention relates to aluminium effect pigments having the following properties: a) a d50-value of the volume averaged particle size distribution curve of 1 µm to 15 µm, b) an average thickness h50 of 15 to 150 nm determined by counting from SEM images, c) an x-ray diffractogram measured on said aluminium effect pigments in essentially plane-parallel alignment showing main peaks which are not [111]- or [222]-reflections. Furthermore, the invention relates to an ink jet printing ink and a method of producing an ink jet printing ink and the use of aluminium effect pigments as well as an ink jet printing ink.
