    Abstract: The core is based on assemblies of fuel cartridges all of which are washed overall by the coolant flow and these are subdivided into at least two zones differentiated by the use of fuels either with varied heavy nuclei density of fissile isotope density. In the former case the fuels are metallic, esp fissile U, in the lower temp zone of the coolant and ceramic, esp. Pu, in the higher temp zone; the metallic fuel zone occupies 0.3-0.7 of the overall height of the fuel cartridge assembly. The heavy neutron density may also be used as the criterion of difference and in this case the cartridges in the lower temp zone have larger cross-sectional area than those in the higher temp zone. Fissile isotope density difference is achieved by making the fuel in the lower temp zone richer than that in the higher temp zone. Breeding capacity increased by up to 10%.
