Abstract: The invention provides an oxide cathode (10) having an indirectly heated electron emitting layer (5) disposed on a cathode base layer (3) and an interface layer (4) between the electron emitting layer (5) and the base layer (3) wherein the interface layer (4) comprises a plurality of different chemical elements.
