Abstract:
A direct-view lighting arrangement (24) suitable for the backlight of a liquid crystal display (LCD) (22) , comprising (in that order) an array of surface-emitting light sources (LEDs) (14) with an angular luminous intensity distribution, an array of beam spreading optical elements (28) , an array of Fresnel lenses (32) to reduce beam divergence and an (optional) diffuser (38) . The refractive properties (convex and concave) of the beam spreading optical elements make the luminous flux essentially constant at the illumination plane (where the LCD is located). Thus, the beam spreading optical elements refract more light into higher beam angles thus compensating for the corresponding fall-off in luminous intensity of the sources. The thin sheet of Fresnel lenses reduces the divergence of the beams and directs them on to the diffuser. The (weak) diffuser serves to add a further beam divergence suitable for various applications, rather than itself producing uniformity in the illumination. The arrangement allows for a slimmer backlight design, eliminating the need for a strong diffuser having a high haze value (>90%). Keywords: Lambertian source,- illuminance, -luminance.
Abstract:
A novel C-aryl glucoside compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a prodrug thereof having an inhibitory activity against sodium-dependent glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) being present in the intestine and kidney; and a pharmaceutical composition comprising the same as an active ingredient, which is useful for preventing or treating metabolic disorders, particularly, diabetes, are provided.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a lactone type pyridine derivative for the prevention and treatment of ischemic diseases, more particularly to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating ischemic diseases comprising a lactone type pyridine derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, which provides superior cell-protecting effect and calcium homeostasis and HSP (heat shock protein) expression controlling effect.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel compound with thiazole ring having an inhibitory activity against sodium-dependent glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) being present in the intestine and kidney, and a pharmaceutical composition comprising the same as an active ingredient, which is useful for preventing or treating metabolic disorders, particularly diabetes.
Abstract:
A lamp including a two-sided source plate, a plurality of light sources, a lens, a diffuser plate, and a driver insulator is disclosed. One set of the light sources generates white light and is attached to one side of the source plate. Another set of the light sources generates colored light and is attached to the source plate's other side. The lens encapsulates the white light-generating set, and redirects that white light. The driver insulator and the diffuser plate are each in contact with the source plate's other side. The driver insulator, diffuser plate, and that side of the source plate define a light box region that contains the colored light-generating set of light sources. The driver insulator acts as a reflector, and the diffuser plate acts as a diffuser, such that colored light is dispersed from the light box region through the diffuser plate.
Abstract:
A lamp having a candle-like appearance and using one or more light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as its light source. Light is emitted from only a small volume at or near the bulb's center. Heat sink and control electronics are outside the bulb. Inside the bulb, a set of secondary optics guides light to an emission point at a prescribed location in the bulb's interior. The secondary optics include a light pipe that guides light away from an LED chip, and a volume scattering element, made from a transparent base material and including transparent particles of a predetermined size and refractive index, that receives light from the light pipe, scattering it. The density of particles in the volume scattering element, the particle size, and the particle refractive index are chosen to produce a scattering pattern that directs more light toward the bulb's base, while maintaining reasonable efficiency.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a display apparatus comprising: a) a light source; b) a light guiding plate for transmitting light from the light source outward from a two-dimensional light-providing surface, one dimension of the light-providing surface defined in a width direction orthogonal to the path of incident light from the light source and the other dimension of the light-providing surface defined in a length direction, orthogonal to the width direction; c) a linear divergence reduction surface to provide a linearly divergence-reduced illumination, whereby divergence along the width direction at full-width half-maximum is less than about 50% of divergence at full-width half-maximum along the length direction; d) a liquid crystal display component for modulating the linearly divergence-reduced light to form a modulated light according to image data, and, e) a diffusing surface in the path of the modulated light.
Abstract:
The invention generally relates to an optical turning film (36) for providing light redirection, comprising: (a) an input surface for accepting incident light comprising a plurality of roof prism structures arranged in a two-dimensional array; and, (b) a substantially planar output surface (38). The use of turning film (36) configured with an array of roof prism structures (26) eliminates the need for a structure having separate bottom prism.
