    Abstract: A single handle mixing faucet comprises a cylindrical housing, a cylindrical sleeve positioned within the housing and a stem reciprocal and rotatable relative to the sleeve. The sleeve discharge port is in its bottom as is the discharge port in the housing. A seal member encloses a portion of the sleeve adjacent the sleeve inlet ports and is in sealing contact with the stem, sleeve and housing. Means are provided within the stem for retarding sudden closure of the stem to prevent "water hammer.

    Abstract: A mixing valve for use in a faucet includes a sleeve which may be formed of plastic and a stem positioned within the sleeve and reciprocal and rotatable relative thereto. The sleeve has hot and cold water inlet ports and at least one outlet port. The stem has inlet and outlet openings such that movement of the stem is effective to control the volume and temperature of water discharged from the sleeve. The stem has an air passage connecting its opposite ends. There is a generally cylindrical seal enclosing the sleeve adjacent its inlet ports and effective to form a seal between the exterior of the sleeve, the exterior of the stem within the sleeve and the interior of the housing enclosing the stem and sleeve. The valve includes means for preventing water hammer.

    Abstract: 1388424 Valves A M MOEN 26 May 1972 [27 May 1971] 25108/72 Heading F2V A mixing valve comprises a ported hollow valve member 428, Fig. 2, rotationally and axially movable by a handle (not shown) relative to a fixed sleeve 424 to provide a flow path between hot and cold water inlets 430, 432 and an outlet 434. The valve also comprises a housing (410), Fig. 1 (not shown), containing the sleeve 424 and having inlets (418, 420) and an outlet (422) aligned with the inlets and outlet of the sleeve. A two-part cylindrical seal 438 has portions which sealingly engage the housing, sleeve and valve member 428. 0-ring seals are also provided where shown. Passages 452, 454 in the valve 428 communicate with a pressure balancing chamber 456. A damper formed by cylinder 492 and a co-operating piston 504 provided with a diagonal bleed groove 510, retards movement of member 428 and thereby prevents water hammer. In alternative embodiments, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the damper is relatively larger, and in one arrangement the diagonal groove is omitted and a bleed passage is provided through the bottom wall of the cylinder.

    Abstract: 1388422 Valves STANADYNE Inc and A M MOEN 26 May 1972 [27 May 1971] 25106/72 Heading F2V A fluid valve, e.g. a rotary valve, comprises a valve member 20, Fig. 1, movable within a sleeve 16 enclosed in a housing 10. The valve includes a seal having at least one port seal portion 62 which extends through a sleeve port 30 and sealingly contacts the valve member, and a body portion 54 which is at least partly cylindrical about the valve member axis and is integral with the port seal portion. The body portion 54 defines an annular chamber 70 with the housing or sleeve, which chamber can be used for receiving the fluid which thereby exerts a force on seal in a direction urging the port seal portion towards the valve member, or for allowing the seal to distort when its port seal portion is otherwise urged by the fluid towards the valve member. The housing has inlets 34, 36 and an outlet 40. The seal shown comprises two identical semi-cylindrical elements 50, 52 each provided with fixing beads 58, an annular sealing bead 68 coaxial with portion 62, and a sealing bead 66 around the perimeter of the element. Another sealing bead may be located adjacent the sealing bead 66. All sealing beads may be omitted, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). In the two-way valve shown in Fig. 10, the seal 146 is arcuate to conform to the surface of sleeve 142 and has a part-conical external surface to conform to the conical inner surface of housing 130.

    Abstract: A single lever mixing faucet has a stem rotatable and reciprocal relative to a surrounding sleeve. The stem and sleeve are positioned within a receiver and are pressure balanced by means of an air passage extending through the stem and connecting the interior space between the stem and the sleeve with atmosphere. The seals between the stem and receiver have portions in sealing contact with the stem, sleeve and receiver and cooperate with the interior surface of the receiver to define water passages between the receiver inlets and the sleeve inlets. The receiver and valve are supported on a body member and there are means to connect the receiver to the body member and to interlock the conduits within the body member to the receiver and to the body member.

    Abstract: A single handle mixing faucet has a hollow stem positioned within a sleeve. The sleeve has a pair of water inlet openings and at least one discharge opening and the stem is reciprocal and rotatable relative to the sleeve to control the volume and temperature of water discharged from the sleeve. The sleeve is positioned within a retainer having bottom inlet openings with the exterior of the sleeve and the interior of the retainer cooperating to define passages from the retainer inlet openings to the sleeve inlets. A handle for the mixing faucet includes a cap and a lever, with the cap being attached to a stem and a portion of the lever being positioned within the cap and interlocked with the sleeve.
