Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions for topical application containing the synergistic combination of sunscreen active compounds.SOLUTION: The compositions for topical application to skin and/or hair, comprise photoprotecting synergistically effective amounts of sunscreen active agents, such as octinoxate, octocrylene, and amiloxate. Methods of protecting skin and/or hair against deleterious effects of sunlight/UV radiation by topical application of compositions are also provided. The composition can comprise an anhydrous or aqueous solid or paste, emulsion, suspension, or dispersion.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide phenylephrine pharmaceutical formulations and compositions for colonic absorption.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising phenylephrine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and an erodible layer which is for oral administration, wherein the composition delivers phenylephrine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof via absorption in the colon. The pharmaceutical composition comprises a core comprising phenylephrine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and an erodible layer which is in a time-dependent, pH-dependent, or colon-specific enzyme-dependent erodible layer that degrades to expose the core to release phenylephrine in the colon. In one preferred embodiment, the erodible layer encases the core. The composition optionally further comprises phenylephrine in the erodible layer or other additional layers. The pharmaceutical composition can further comprise one or more additional therapeutically active agents selected from one or more of the group consisting of antihistamines, analgesics, anti-pyretics, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cushioning device.SOLUTION: The present invention is directed to cushioning devices comprising a pressure sensitive adhesive. In particular, the invention concerns the use of pressure sensitive adhesive materials to improve the hold of soft gel cushioning devices. A cushioning device comprising a sticky surface comprises a gel material bound to a thermoplastic film material having a polarity compatible with the gel material, wherein the thermoplastic film material further comprises a pressure sensitive adhesive located on a surface of the film material opposite to the surface that is bonded to the gel material.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a formulation showing an improved water resistance, having a physical characteristic that the moving of the formulation traversing the treated skin of a subject is reduced, providing a limited slip grip performance characteristic, and capable of protecting the skin from physical and biochemical effects of ultraviolet ray.SOLUTION: This is an emulsion formulation for topical application to the skin. The formulation contains an aqueous phase, an oil phase, at least a kind of emulsifier, and ethylenediamine/neopentyl glycol/stearyl hydrogenated dimer dilinoleate copolymer.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gel composition for topical application which comprises a keratolytic agent and a film forming agent which are useful for treatment of warts and can maintain acceptable active ingredient concentrations in the compositions even though the composition comprises ether which is a volatile ingredient, and to provide a dispenser comprising the composition.SOLUTION: A gel composition for topical application comprises salicylic acid or salt thereof in a concentration up to about 17% (w/w), a film forming agent, and one or more volatile ingredients. The composition comprises ether in an amount of between about 3% (w/w) and about 14% (w/w). A dispenser comprises the composition. The film forming agent is preferably nitrocellulose.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions for skin application to protect against harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, particularly the effects of solar radiation.SOLUTION: The photostability of avobenzone in sunscreen compositions is stabilized against photodegradation through the use of menthyl anthranilate. One example embodiment of the invention encompasses a composition including avobenzone and menthyl anthranilate, wherein the menthyl anthranilate is present in a sufficient amount to stabilize the avobenzone against photodegradation. Another example embodiment of the invention encompasses a method for protecting a skin against ultraviolet radiation, including a step of applying to the skin an effective amount of the composition comprising avobenzone and menthyl anthranilate, wherein the menthyl anthranilate is present in a sufficient amount to stabilize the avobenzone against photodegradation.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deodorizer in particular, a deodorizer substrate with a porous carrier material formed in a monolithic form, and to provide an odor neutralizing composition in the porous carrier material.SOLUTION: There is disclosed an odor deodorizer. The odor deodorizer includes: a disk-shaped porous carrier material of microporous high density polyethylene, having pores in the range of 45-100 microns; an odor neutralizing composition of undecylenic acid and/or a derivative thereof in the porous carrier material; and a disk-shaped talc mixed, injection-moldable polypropylene housing sized to fit in a shoe and having a plurality of holes and containing the porous carrier, the housing being movable between an open to a closed configuration.
