Abstract: Couplers (40) are disclosed that include first and second mutually coupled conductors (48, 50). The coupled conductors may be regular or irregular in configuration, and for example, may be linear, including rectilinear or with one or more curves, bends or turns (78), such as forming a ring, coil, spiral (74, 76) or other loop (70, 72). One or more sections (42, 44 46) of a coupler (40) may be on different levels and separated by a dielectric medium, such as air or a dielectric substrate. Coupled conductors (48, 50) may be facing each other on the same or spaced-apart dielectric surfaces, such as opposing surfaces of a common substrate, and each conductor (48, 50) may include one or more portions (48c, 48d, 48e, 50c, 5Od, 5Oe) on each side or surface of a substrate. In some examples, a coupler (40) may include plural coupled sections (42, 44, 46), with conductors (48, 50) in one section (44) being only broadside coupled, and conductors (48, 50) in another section (42) being edge-coupled.

The substrate may be formed of one or more layers and the coils may have a number of turns appropriate for a given application.
