    Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for cleaning the surface of a printing roll, such as an anilox roll. The device includes a laser-equipped assembly adapted to project a laser beam on the surface of the printing roll. The laser-equipped assembly uses a reflector and a lens to guide the laser beam along a predetermined path on the surface of the printing roil. In some embodiments, an autofocus system may be included to move the lens so that the desired focal point for the laser beam on the printing roll surface is achieved.

    Abstract: An apparatus for advancing cut products from a saw to a wrapper includes a plurality of product supports for supporting multiple rows of cut products. A first or buffer portion of the apparatus includes an entry portion of the product supports and includes a first conveyor and a pair of flight bars mounted on the first conveyor. A second or pusher portion of the apparatus includes an exit portion of the product supports and includes a second conveyor for each of the product supports and a pair of pushers mounted on each of the second conveyors. A first drive motor advances the first conveyor and the flight bars thereon for pushing cut products on the product supports from the entry portion toward the second conveyors. A second drive motor is drivingly connected to at least one of the second conveyors, and a third drive motor is drivingly connected to at least another of the second conveyors whereby the pushers mounted thereon can be drive independently of each other for pushing cut products toward the exit portion of the product supports. Upper and lower speed-up belts may be mounted adjacent the exit portions of the product supports for advancing and separating the cut products.

    Abstract: A tissue log cutting saw has an arm movable orbitally within an interior of saw house. A spindle and housing is mounted to the arm. A tool holder with a blade is arrangeable at a first end of the spindle, and an opposite second end rotationally drives the spindle while providing access to an operator of a clamp in the spindle. The clamp is moveable between a hold position in which the clamp engages the tool holder at the first end, and a release position in which the clamp disengages from the tool holder and allows the tool holder to be removed from the first end. An actuator mounted to a structure separate from the arm has an end effector that cooperates with the operator of the clamp to enable the tool holder to be released from the clamp to facilitate automatic changing of a blade of the saw.

    Abstract: A description is given of a control method for controlling the process of sharpening the cutting blade of a cutting machine, in particular a cutting machine used for cutting logs of sheet material, in particular paper, comprising at least one sharpening wheel, wherein said cutting blade and said at least one sharpening wheel are formed in an electrically conductive material and said at least one sharpening wheel is electrically insulated from the rest of the structure that forms the cutting machine and is controlled by a PLC controller, comprising the steps consisting of: bringing said at least one sharpening wheel close to said cutting blade in such a way as to cause the closure of a circuit when the contact between the two components establishes an electrical connection; measuring a contact signal in said circuit which depends on the quality of the electrical connection generated between sharpening wheel and cutting blade, this contact signal having zero value when no electrical connection is established; comparing the contact signal with a reference signal; and, alternatively sending an input signal to the PLC controller to launch a phase of sharpening of the cutting blade by acting on the sharpening wheel if the contact signal is greater than or equal to the value of the reference signal; launching a maintenance operation if the contact signal is lower than the value of the reference signal.

The loader discharge discharges the log from the loader bucket to the downstream section of the processing line.

    Abstract: A system has first and second winding drums and a core feeder for inserting a core into a winding nest for forming a convoluted roll. The leading edge of the web is engaged with a threading belt and directed around the first winding drum and through the winding nest to a position where the leading edge is beyond where the core feeder inserts the core into the winding nest thus providing an excess portion of the web between the leading edge and the core feeder core insertion position. A thread-up core is inserted into the winding nest and rotated with the winding drums so that the excess portion moves around the thread-up core. The leading edge is separated from the threading belt, the excess portion of the web is wound around the thread-up core, and the web from the supply is wound around the thread-up core.

    Abstract: A transverse folding apparatus (10) for folding cut web products into web wipes, napkins, and the like includes a tucker blade (74) which follows a hypocycloidal path for folding the web products. A cutoff roll (23) and an anvil roll (24) cut a web into cut web products. The cut web products are conveyed along a first web path by first and second belts (29, 30). The second belt (30) also extends along a second web path which extends transversely from the first web path. The first belt (29) extends along the first web path beyond the second web path. The tucker blade moves transversely past the first belt into the first web path to engage each web product and transversely fold the web product into the second web path. A creasing roll (88) along the second web path engages the folded edge of each web product. A pair of stacker infeed belts (96, 97) extend along the second web path and convey the web produts from the second belt to a stacker.

    Abstract: A processing line includes a conveyor for conveying product from upstream processing equipment to downstream processing equipment. Data structures stored in a memory of a controller comprise a backlog set point for product to be processe. A product sensor for the conveyor is enabled to generate signals representative of a number of the products moving on the conveyor from the upstream processing equipment past the sensor to the downstream processing equipment. A conveyor speed sensor for the conveyor is enabled to generate signals representative of a speed of the conveyor. A backlog measurement for the conveyor based upon the product sensor signals and the conveyor speed sensor signals is determined. The backlog measurement is compared to the backlog set point to determine a difference in backlog. The controller is enabled to generate signals for controlling the processing line based upon the difference in backlog.
