    Abstract: Pyrogenically prepared silicon dioxide powder in the form of aggregated primary particles having an STSA surface area 5 of 10 to 500 m 2 /g, a thickening action, based on the STSA surface area, of 4 to 8 mPas.g/m 2 , and a micropore volume of 0.03 to 0.07 cm 3 /g. It is prepared by mixing a hydrolysable silicon compound, an oxygen-containing gas and a primary combustion gas, burning the mixture into a reaction chamber, additionally passing a secondary combustion gas into the reaction chamber, and subsequently separating the resulting powder from gaseous substances, the hydrogen ratio gamma primary of the raw material mixture being less than 1 and at the same time the oxygen ratio lambda primary of the raw material mixture being greater than 1.
