PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a plurality of process plants associated with different business entities to share a remotely situated data processing facility by a data processing system and method for use with a process control system. SOLUTION: The data processing facility includes a cluster of redundant servers that are communicatively coupled via a local network. Each of the redundant servers is adapted to acquire and process data received from a plurality of process plants. The data processing facility also includes a plurality of redundant data historians that are communicatively coupled to each other and to the cluster of redundant servers for storage of process data and analysis results. Each of the plurality of process plants includes internet-enabled field devices, internet-enabled field device interfaces, and/or internet-enabled data concentration nodes that send and receive information related to the data processing facility by using the Internet. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a control system utilizing a low speed scan cycle is unable to compensate for high frequency process variations which have a duration less than the round-trip communications time between the controller developing the compensating control signal and the measurement device. SOLUTION: A measurement device measures a process variable at a relatively high frequency and sends a subset of the measured data (eg. the low frequency data) to a standard controller. The standard controller generates a control signal to control the measured process parameter in any known manner. The modeling routine analyzes the high frequency data and develops a mathematical model of the high frequency noise within the process variable. The resulting mathematical model may then be used by a compensation routine to alter the control signal produced by the controller before that control signal is delivered to or used by the device being controlled. Abstract:
A method of operating a process a combustion analyzer having a measurement cell is provided. The method includes exposing the measurement cell to exhaust of a combustion process where fuel and oxygen are combined in a burner to produce a flame. The measurement cell is heated to a temperature above a flashpoint of the fuel. When a condition is detected, such as a fault or abnormal situation, gas is directed to the measurement cell to form a gaseous barrier between the measurement cell and unburned fuel while the detected condition exists. Once the condition abates, the gas flow is disengaged and process combustion gas measurements are provided
