Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an oil-soluble branched-chain hydrocarbyl-substituted arenesulfonic acid salt, wherein the arenesulfonic moiety has at least one hydrocarbyl substituent which is a highly branched group as defined by having a Chi(0)/Shadow XY ratio greater than about 0.180, exhibits good dynamic frictional performance.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition containing: (a). at least 3 weight percent of an overbased sulphonate detergent with a metal ratio of about 12.5:1 to about 40:1; (b). at least 1.5 weight percent of a sulphur containing phenate detergent with a metal ratio of not more than 2.5; and (c). an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the sulphur containing phenate contains oligomers of hydrocarbyl phenol with at least 50 wt % of said oligomers in the form of the tetramer or higher oligomers. The composition is suitable for internal combustion engines, particularly marine diesel applications to provide improved cleanliness decreased cylinder wear and reduced deposits.
Abstract:
A sulfurized alkaline earth metal (e.g., calcium) dodecylphenate is prepared by reacting (i) dodecylphenol with (ii) calcium hydroxide or calcium oxide in an amount of about 0.3 to about 0.7 moles per mole of dodecylphenol charged and (iii) an alkylene glycol in an amount of about 0.13 to about 0.6 moles per mole of dodecylphenol charged; and reacting the product of the first step with sulfur in an amount of about 1.6 to about 3 moles per mole of dodecylphenol charged; and thereafter optionally reacting the product with additional calcium hydroxide or calcium oxide and with carbon dioxide so as to form an overbased phenate. The product thus prepared has reduced levels of monomeric dodecylphenol.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an overbased vaterite containing composition, comprising: a disperse medium, and a calcium salt and calcium carbonate dispersed in the disperse medium, at least about 50% by weight of the calcium carbonate being in the form of vaterite, the composition being substantially haze free.
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention, it has been discovered that additive gels can provide additives to a functional fluid over time. In accordance with the present invention it has been discovered that an additive gel comprising i.) at least two additives selected from the group comprising detergents, dispersants, acids, bases, over based detergent, succinated polyolefins or mixtures thereof wherein the selected additives when combined form a gel; ii.) optionally at least one additive comprising viscosity modifier(s), friction modifier(s), detergent(s), cloud point depressant(s), pour point depressant(s), demulsifier(s), flow improver(s), anti static agent(s), dispersant(s), antioxidant(s), antifoam(s), corrosion/rust inhibitor(s), extreme pressure/antiwear agent(s), seal swell agent(s), lubricity aid(s), antimisting agent(s), and mixtures thereof; resulting in a controlled release gel that over time releases at least one desired additive into a functional fluid when the gel is contacted with the functional fluid.
