Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve low speed torque in a simple structure by driving a check valve for opening or closing an inlet duct by means of an electromagnet controlled by a circuit having a breaker. CONSTITUTION: A circuit 38 comprising a power supply 34 and a breaker 36 is connected with an electromagnet 32. When a piston 12 reaches a given crank angle, the breaker 36 is closed to supply power to the electromagnet 32. Thus, a check valve 26 is sucked to the electromagnet 32 to close an inlet duct 14. Since the check valve 26 closes the inlet duct 14 at a desired time in such a simple structure, valve closing timing of an inlet valve 16 is set to the best condition at a high speed and simultaneously low speed torque can be improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To heat the contents and boundary surfaces of a combustion chamber rapidly and effectively to an optimum temperature by arranging an additional valve opened for flowing a filler of air and fuel-air mixture into a cylinder, and opening and closing the additional valve in response to a signal from a control device. CONSTITUTION: An inlet passage 14 terminates in a combustion chamber 18. An inlet valve 16 is arranged at the position at which the inlet passage 14 terminates in the combustion chamber 18. An exhaust gas passage 20 is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber 18 via an outlet valve 22. An additional valve 28 is arranged upstream of the inlet valve 16 to entirely or partially seal the inlet passage 14. The additional valve 28 is opened for flowing a filler of air and fuel-air mixture into a cylinder. The additional valve 28 restricts the supply of a combustible gas to the combustion chamber 18 entirely or partially in response to a signal from a control device 30. Thus, it is possible to heat the contents and boundary surfaces of the combustion chamber rapidly and effectively to an optimum temperature.

The brace member is made of glass fiber, and it is selected so that density of the above material is just sufficient enough to absorb probable or estimated pressure or a thrust load.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To absorb thermal displacement and to suppress vibration while reducing the size by employing a combination of normally tensioned rib and spring for supporting an inner core containing a heat accumulating core in an outer container while keeping an insulation space. CONSTITUTION: An inner core 10 containing a heat accumulating core is supported in an outer container 12 while keeping an insulation space 15. The inner core 10 is suspended between the end walls 26, 28 of the outer container 12 by means of ribs having low thermal conductivity and a spring 36 for absorbing thermal displacement is disposed between the inner and outer containers. Since a minimum insulation space 14 is kept between the inner and outer containers 10, 12 and a tension is applied constantly to the ribs fixed to the opposite end walls 20, 50 in the axial direction of the inner container 10, undesired vibration can be suppressed or reduced and the size can be reduced.

The valve is controlled by a signal from a control unit 30, and the unit receives signals indicating the operation conditions of an engine and an oxygen sensor arranged in an exhaust pipe, and receives, if desired, command signals of an vehicle driver. Further, an air-fuel ratio is adjusted on the basis of experimental data and general data during a period of starting the engine, and the oxygen sensor is preheated before starting the engine.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To simplify the charging of heat medium by providing an insulating container, an inner container and a chamber for heat storage medium comprising a heat storage core partitioned from the heat transfer medium flow-out passage, and inlet and outlet ducts for heat transfer medium thereby avoiding the effect of thermal expansion. CONSTITUTION: A housing 10 is made up of outer and inner containers 12, 14 to constitute an insulating space 16 between. An inner container 14 comprises an inlet duct 20 and outlet duct for heat transfer medium arranged in parallel and the chamber 22 in the inner container is partitioned vertically into parts associated with the inlet and outlet ducts, respectively, while a chamber 24 for heat storage medium is disposed in the inner container. High vacuum is generated in the insulating space 16 and a fixing means for the containers 12, 14 is arranged to avoid heat bridge in order to sustain heat loss at a low level. Charging quantity of the heat storage medium is equal to the chamber capacity thereof at the maximum temperature.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To heat an engine rapidly to its operative temperature by arranging an internal combustion engine in a cooling fluid flow circuit, providing a heat insulted heat storage means in the cooling fluid flow circuit, and providing an electric pump for delivering the cooling fluid from the heat storage means to the cooling fluid flow circuit. CONSTITUTION: An internal combustion engine 10 is included in a cooling fluid flow circuit 12. During inoperative period of the engine 10, the cooling fluid is received in a heat storage means 36. After the engine is started, an electric pump 42 in a filling and discharging pipe 38 pumps the cooling fluid from the heat storage means 36 and delivers the fluid to the cooling fluid flow circuit 12 via a three-way valve 24. As soon as the cooling fluid is pumped out from the heat storage means 36, the three-way valve 24 flows the cooling fluid from a check valve 22 to a pump 26. Thus, the cooling fluid is kept in the cooling fluid flow circuit 12. In this way, a vehicle engine can be heated rapidly to its operative temperature during cold starting periods.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To fabricate heat storage means comparatively economically, by providing thermally insulated regions in an outer and an inner containers which regions are prepared by exhaust gas therebetween and burning out, and extending supporting member for the inner container through the regions. CONSTITUTION: A metal housing 10 is composed of a cylindrical outer container 12 and a cylindrical inner container 14 coaxially disposed therein, and an insulating space 16 is formed between the containers 12 and 14 as a vacuum space made by exhaust gas and burning up. The inner container 14 is provided with a feed duct 20 for a heat transfer medium and a return duct extending in parallel therewith at a dead end 18 of the insulating space 16. The inner container 14 accommodates the heat storage medium disposed in one or plural chambers 22, and the outer container 12 comprises suspension or support member for supporting the inner container 14 therein in such a manner as to avoid heat bridge.
