Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing sanitizing water in a cabinet and spigot type bottled water dispenser features an ozone generating system to generate ozone for sanitizing the water. Ozone is generated and collected within an ozone generator housing. A blower transmits air to the ozone generator housing. The air carries the ozone that is generated through a flow line to an air diffuser that is positioned upstream of the spigot (or spigots) used to dispense water. In one embodiment, a valve that is activated on the spigot to dispense water also activates the blower and ozone generator. In other embodiments, a flow sensor activates the ozone generator and blower. Various spigot and flow sensor arrangements are disclosed as a part of the overall apparatus and method.

Abstract:
A method of sanitizing a water dispenser (10) is disclosed. The water dispenser has a cabinet (20) with a water supply that includes a reservoir (15) which is cooled by a refrigeration unit including a compressor (32) and has formed an ice ring in the reservoir and an operable spigot (90, 92) on the cabinet enables water to be dispensed from the cabinet and its water supply. The method comprises a) a programmable ozone generator, including a programmable controller (200), turning off power to the compressor; the programmable ozone generator injecting air into the reservoir to at least partially melt the ice ring; and the programmable ozone generator generating and injecting ozone into the reservoir via at least one diffuser element. The water dispenser further comprises a remote display (250) operably connected to the programmable controller but spaced apart from the programmable controller, and the method further comprises operating the remote display to display at least one indicator regarding operation of the programmable controller.
