Abstract:
A method of pupil segmentation in a digital image of a vertebrate eye, said image being an intensity image composed of pixels having each a specific intensity value, the method comprising the steps of: - deriving a texture image from the intensity image, said texture image being composed of pixels having each a specific contrast value; - forming a combined image by point-wise combining the intensity image with the texture image, - identifying a set of pixels in the combined image which fulfill a combined low-intensity and low-contrast criterion; and - approximating a boundary of said set by a convex curve and taking said convex curve as a boundary of the pupil.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Devices, systems and methods for the parallel detection of a set of distinct nucleic acid sequences use multiple sequence amplification and simultaneous hybridization readout. An automated nucleic acid analysis system comprises in microfluidic connection sample lysis, purification, PCR and detection modules configured to detect in parallel distinct nucleic acid sequences via multiple sequence amplification and simultaneous microarray hybridization readout. High performance microfluidic electroactive polymer (μEAP) actuators comprising a dead-end fluid chamber in which the floor of the chamber is an electrode covered with an EAP layer of dielectric elastomer are configured for particle sorting.
Abstract:
A device includes a substrate, an array of metal pads on a first surface of the substrate, a carbon polymer composite covering the array of metal pads, the composite having variations that result in random resistance values between the metal pads usable as a random code. A method of manufacturing a secure device, including forming an array of metal pads on a dielet substrate, the dielet substrate containing at least one memory in which is stored an encryption key, and an RF communication section, covering the array of metal pads with a carbon polymer composite such that variations in the carbon concentration in the polymer forms a unique pattern of resistance, attaching the dielet substrate to a host component, receiving a request from a security server for a unique code determined by the unique pattern of resistance, and using the encryption key, encrypting and providing the unique code to the security server.
Abstract:
The invention provides mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase 4 (MAP4K4) inhibitors, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrides and stereoisomers thereof. The compounds are employed in pharmaceutical compositions, and methods of making and use, including treating a person in need thereof with an effective amount of the compound or composition, and detecting a resultant diminution of tumor cell growth, cancer or metastasis.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes a housing that includes an inner space, an inlet connected to the inner space, and a plurality of outlets connected to the inner space. The housing allows an inner cable of a Bowden cable to pass therethrough such that the inner cable passes through the inlet, the inner space, and any of the plurality of outlets. The apparatus also includes an inner hub rotatably mounted in the inner space of the housing. The inner hub is configured to receive and guide the inner cable passing through the housing such that the inner cable forms a curved path about the inner hub. The apparatus includes a socket configured to receive the Bowden cable. The socket can be coupled to the housing at a plurality of different positions to select any of the plurality outlets such that the inner cable of the Bowden cable passes through the selected outlet.
