The present invention provides aqueous dispersions that comprise the reaction product of (A) a polyester that is a reaction product of at least a (i) polybasic acid containing at least two carboxyl groups and (ii) a polyhydric alcohol containing at least two hydroxyl groups and (B) at least (i) a (meth)acrylic acid ester, and (ii) an ethylenically unsaturated mono- or multi-functional acid. Also described are coating compositions containing the aqueous dispersion, methods of forming the aqueous dispersion, and metal containers bearing internal liners derived from the coating compositions with beverages or wet foodstuffs located in the metal containers and in contact with the internal liners.

The present invention provides novel packaging articles, e.g., food and beverage cans, having a novel coating composition applied to at least a portion of a surface thereon. In preferred embodiments, the coating composition includes at least a film-forming amount of a copolyester resin having a backbone that includes one or more soft segments and a plurality of hard segments. The copolyester resin preferably has a glass transition temperature from about from about 10°C to about 50°C. The present invention also provides a method for making coated articles.

The polymer preferably includes a backbone having one or more polycyclic groups. In one embodiment, the polymer is a polyester and, more preferably, a polyester-urethane polymer. A polymer and coating compositions containing the polymer are provided that are useful in coating applications such as, for example, food or beverage packaging coatings. The polymer preferably includes a polyester backbone and at least one deblockable isocyanate group attached to the backbone. In one embodiment, the polymer includes a polyester-carbamate backbone, one or more pendant deblockable isocyanate groups, and one or more terminal or pendant isocyanate-reactive groups. The deblockable isocyanate groups may be provided, for example, through use of a partially blocked polyisocyanate.

The powder compositions include at least one powder that preferably includes an amount of one or more branched polymers such as, for example, one or more branched polyamide polymers. The powder composition is preferably capable of being formed, via a layer-by- layer sintering process such as, for example, selective laser sintering, into a three-dimensional article.

The food and beverage containers include a metal substrate that is at least partially coated with a coating composition that includes a water-dispersible resin system and an aqueous carrier. The resin system includes an epoxy component and an acrylic component. In a preferred embodiment, the coating composition is at least minimally retortable when cured.
